Barton Hall Farm can be found just outside Pooley Bridge, the village at the outfall of Lake Ullswater. Set in the countryside on a traditional working farm, this area offers some of the most wonderful landscapes in the region from the privacy of a secluded rural setting. It is minutes from Lake Ullswater, with its walking, water sports and ponderous steamers making their regal-like journeys up and down the lake in the shadow of the majestic fells. This area offers many forms of recreation, whatever season you choose to visit. All three cottages have been tastefully converted from original old stone farm buildings; and wherever possible the original features have been retained. Old pitch pine beams stretch unhindered through bedrooms and across stairways and the local slate and sandstone are in evidence throughout. Guests are welcomed with fresh flowers, along with well furnished comfortable holiday accommodation, wood-burning stoves and well-equipped kitchens. For good walking, fells nearby include High Street range, 1 mile, and Helvellyn, 10 miles. The market town of Penrith, 5 miles; whilst the attractions of Keswick are 14 miles. Shops, pubs and restaurants ½ mile.

    Great cottage and the owners strike a good balance of being helpful but not overbearing. The only downside of the cottage is that the walk into town is either through a muddy field with a stile that is not dog friendly or along a road with out a pavement. If this isn't a concern for you then it is a perfect cottage. It is on a working farm bear that in mind!

    Barton Hall Farm has 3 lovely self-contained cottages situated on a working farm near Pooley Bridge. As in previous years, we stayed in the one bedroom cottage for a week in September. There is a feeling of a 'home from home' with fresh flowers and home-bake cakes on arrival. Amanda and Nigel are a friendly hard working couple and welcomed us warmly then we were left alone to enjoy our stay. Stable cottage is warm and cosy and benefits from central heating, plus the option of having a log fire. The cottage feels spacious with a good sized kitchen, with views over the fells, and a comfortable lounge and bedroom. As described in the details, the bath has a hand shower but at the end of a day's walking a hot bath is just what's needed! There is a utility room with washing machine, drier and freezer, and a useful 'dog shower'. Outside is a shared garden for those summer evenings! It's an easy walk to Pooley Bridge with pubs and shops, and the 508 bus service nearby gives a good link to Penrith (main line rail station) and Ullswater, with the new Ullswater Way walk which links with the bus and steamer service. As well as good walks in the area, there are plenty of attractions nearby for wet weather days. The cottage is well supplied with leaflets for ideas and information.

    The cottage was really nice. Comfortable with just about everything you need. A lovely setting on a working farm with Pooley bridge just a short walk over the fields.i would recommend it to anyone.
