Scottish Country Cottages

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above.

This property oozes warmth and character, benefiting from a cosy wood-burning stove and an enclosed decked garden where squirrels are regular visitors.

In a romantic setting amid stunning scenery, made famous by the BBC’s Monarch of the Glen TV series, these two architect-designed, timber clad, adjoining properties (Baltinna West UTY and Baltinna East SGGW) make a truly tranquil holiday retreat. They can be booked individually or together for two couples, and are set within an enclosed garden, each with its own private sitting-out area. Oozing character and warmth, each have their own charms and both benefit from cosy wood-burning stoves in the living room and sheepskin rugs on oak floors. Nestling between the Cairngorm and Monadhliath mountain ranges, Newtonmore is situated in the heart of the Cairngorm National Park, a walker’s and birdwatcher’s paradise. Outdoor pursuits found locally include 7 golf courses, fishing on the River Spey, mountain biking, skiing, tours taking in distilleries, RSPB sites, interactive museums, and the towns of Aviemore and Inverness. Shops ¼ mile. Pubs serving very good food within 1 mile. Excellent restaurants locally.

Living room with wood-burning stove, rugs on oak floor and well-equipped, modern fitted kitchen/dining area. Separate toilet. First floor: Double bedroom with feature roll-top bath, wash basin and en-suite shower room (no toilet).

Amazing place, will stay again in the future. A few little things but they have already been mentioned to the owners so should be dealt with. Otherwise would of scored a 10! Loved the area, the few wildcats on the property was great. Seeing red squirrels outside your window. Not far from Aviemore or the A9, so very easy to find and to get to local areas. Will come back when we can afford it!

FANTASTIC cottage! Very cosy, especially in the -3C temps outside!! Looked just like the photos. VERY clean and tidy. It really is a lovely cottage. Couldn't have asked for more. Would LOVE to go back :-) You will NOT be disappointed if you stay here :-)

We had another great week at Baltinna. The cottage as always was spotlessly clean and well equipped, the little touches, such as bath salts, give a very personal feel to the cottage. The wood burning stove is amazingly efficient and kept us very warm on some cold days, there is also lots of extra wood in the wood store which is a nice touch as other cottages that we have stayed in before have not provided any wood or only the first lot. The cottage is well located in the village, the newtonmore grill is a few minutes walk away as is the petrol station with shop and the train station is also not that far away. The village also has a well stocked co-op supermarket and lots of cafes. The locals are very friendly and can offer useful information on the area, we were able to find a flock of waxwings in aviemore after a good tip off from some locals we met while out walking. The 10km wildcat walk gives some excellent views of the area and a chance to see some of the local wildlife. The highland wildlife park and museum of rural life (open in summer) are worth a visit, as is trying out the wildcat experience which involves finding wildcat replicas that are hidden around the village, be warned it is highly addictive. We will definitely be visiting baltinna in the future, we can't imagine staying anywhere else.

We had a wonderful stay at Baltinna West. The cottage is well equipped and cosy, with lovely views from upstairs. There is a petrol station almost next door and a pretty good Co-op just down the road. There are also several other shops and cafés in Newtonmore and lots of lovely walks.

We enjoyed our break in Newtonmore there are lots of beautiful walks in the surrounding area. The cottage has everything you need for a short break but we found the sofa and bed small and uncomfortable and windows and binds dirty. Can be cold at times but the heating kicks in quickly and the log burner when you use it is lovely. Very easy to find on exiting the main road.
