Appleshine Cottage is a Grade II listed barn, dating back to the 17th-Century, which has been lovingly restored into a characterful holiday home and has retained many of its original features including exposed stone walls and original beams. Located in the small Yorkshire village of Almondbury, Appleshine Cottage enjoys an elevated position within a peaceful and picturesque valley and has stunning 360-degree countryside views. The property looks out towards Castle Hill and The Victoria Tower, a folly which was built to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee. On the edge of the Peak District and close to the North Yorkshire Moors, this is a great base for those who love the outdoors with many walks from the doorstep, from a gentle stroll to more challenging treks and trails. Other leisure activities available locally include cycling, golf, horse riding and clay pigeon shooting. Almondbury is on the edge of the ‘Last of the Summer Wine’ country just 4 miles from the popular town of Holmfirth which has a wide variety of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants. There is also a good selection of pubs within a 15 minute walk, some of which offer food. A wider range of facilities can be found in Huddersfield which again is approximately 4 miles. The area is rich in culture with notable theatres in Bradford (the Alhambra) and Leeds (The Grand). The region also plays host to a number of music festivals throughout the year, including Marsden’s jazz festival and Huddersfield’s contemporary music festival. Families will particularly enjoy the Eureka! Science museum at Halifax, 11 miles, Bradford’s National Media Museum, 16 miles, and the Royal Armouries at Leeds, 22 miles. Other places of interest, within easy driving distance, include Bretton Sculpture Park, 9 miles, Haworth and Bronte Country, 22 miles, Manchester, 32 miles and Harrogate 36 miles. The historic city of York can also be reached by car in just over an hour. National Trust properties within easy reach include Nostell Priory and Parkland, Hardcastle Crags, both 15 miles, East Riddlesden Hall, 18 miles and Lyme Park, 23 miles. Shop 1 mile, pub 1½ miles and restaurant 1 mile.

    In a beautiful and peaceful location with great open views across the valley. We had a very comfortable week here on family business but would definitely return for a holiday. Probably the upstairs bedroom and bathroom is more suited to children due to the limited headroom but it is a stunning room with original beams and great views. The cottage is full of character and has a wonderful outside sitting area. Great bed and shower. We were made very welcome by the owner.

    Appleshine cottage is a little gem set in a beautiful location with stunning views .There is incredible attention to detail and the cottage is finished to a very high standard . Although the lounge/kitchen/dinning area is compact the cottage has a feeling of space as the bedrooms are quite separate ,which was great with a teenager who loved the room upstairs. We were lucky with the weather and it was wonderful to sit outside on the patio and admire the plants and the view. Owners Penny and Marcus are charming and willing to help with any problems if required ,but equally keeping a distance. Fresh eggs, milk and homemade biscuits on arrival was very welcome and flowers in the bedroom were appreciated. Lovely area for walking and we will definitely return to do more of it. Two days after leaving a parcel arrived of all the items my daughter had left behind in drawers, Penny certainly didn't need to do this but it was extremely kind of her to do so.(I will check them next time!)... A wonderful short break.
