Lovely location and the cottage was ok but dated. The central heating system needs updating especially the boiler which looked obsolete!!! Didn't have any heating for 24hrs due to this boiler tripping out and we had to keep going out to the shed with a torch to reset it but it just kept tripping out. Ruined the start of the holiday by being freezing cold especially at night as heating was set to a limited times! Wasn't very impressed with the owners attitude either!! Shame

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry that you experienced problems during your stay at the Anchorage. Our caretaker attended immediately after she received your call and managed to start the heating, turned it to the maximum temperature and also set the timer to allow the heating to run for 24hrs. We arranged for an engineer to attend Monday morning and in the meantime, made a 6hr journey to the cottage on Sunday to bring you extra heaters and bedding. The heating was working when we arrived at the property. The heating controls are in the kitchen and simply pressing an advance button will give heating outside the set hours. These instructions are included within the welcome information. Having drawn your attention to this, we asked for you to let us know on Monday that the heating was still working. Unfortunately, the instructions were not followed and the continuous use of the lockout button in the boiler house caused the boiler to flood and switch off as a safety measure. The boiler house was left unlocked for the engineer to gain access but normally inaccessible to guests. The engineer has given the boiler a service and a clean bill of health. We do not know what else we could have done to resolve the initial heating problem and think your comments are unfair and unjustified. We had hoped our rapid response to rectify the initial issue demonstrated our commitment to you as our guests and I’m unsure of what more could have been done to maximise your holiday experience at the Anchorage.

Very nice house. A little dated but clean and there was nothing we lacked in equipment. Wifi would have been nice, especially as the DVD player was not working. The garden was nice but needs some tidying up

A lack of meaningful instructions on how things worked coupled with the fact the DVD player did not work and the freezer drawers did not fit well left us feeling frustrated with the property. A property advertised as 5 person should have a better sized table and chairs, we struggled to fit 2 adults and 2 children round it. A lack of wireless connectivity in an area lacking in good 3/4G access caused us difficulties when planning our trips out. We came to this property from a week camping and we were expecting to stay somewhere comfortable and clean. Our two boys found woodlice under their beds and whilst servicable the rest of the house was not overly comfortable. The garden was delightful as was the location. The instructions left were mostly meaningless - telling us more about their other properties rather than what we needed. We were told there was a shop nearby but not given directions! Overall we felt that the property could do with modernisation of information, amenities and decor. Sadly we did not enjoy our stay and felt we paid too much for what was on offer.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; We leave full manufacturer's instructions, when we can, for all the appliances and these are left next to the appliances. If they are not available, we write them ourselves. We will rewrite them and try to make them simpler to understand. No other customers have commented on the freezer drawers. If the freezer door is not closed properly, ice will build up inside which may affect the closing of the drawers. With regard to the dining table, we have taken your feedback on board and will replace with a larger table. I am sorry you were disappointed that Wi-Fi was not available however the cottage was not advertised as having Wi-Fi. It is something though that we will consider for the 2016 season. There are files of tourist information, as well as books, maps and walks in the local area in the cottage and we do encourage guests to contact either our caretaker or ourselves, so we can rectify any issues at our earliest convenience, as we want all of our guests to have an enjoyable holiday.
