This is such a lovely place to stay, very warm and cozy, the owner was very friendly and it was a perfect base to explore the East Coast. The upstairs bedroom/dressing room/bathroom was wonderful, the other downstairs bedrooms were also very nice, although the double bedroom was a little dark due to it not having a proper window, but it's only a minor issue. The dogs were very safe, and loved the enclosed garden, a few reviews mention having to go around the property to access this, but there's a really warm porch at the back, newly added, which meant we could dry them off before letting them in the house. The Kitchen is small, but well equipped, we cooked a couple of times, but tended to eat out as a treat. There's a great pub in Holme-on-Spalding-Moor, a couple of miles away called the Red Lion, the food is incredible! As is the Indian - The Bombay Clay oven, in the Black Swan pub in Foggerthorpe, we got a take out on the last night and it was delicious. The drive to get to the cottage is pretty bad, but we managed it, and it's the reason I gave location 9 instead of 10, otherwise we'd have given it full marks across the board. Highly recommend this cottage. The local area, if you didn't want to drive to the coast, has some lovely towns near by, we especially liked Pocklington, and the cheese/beer shop in Bubwith called the Jug and Bottle is worth a little trip. We had a lovely time and felt very relaxed by the end of it, thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We all had an amazing time in your beautiful cottage, we had such a lovely welcome which was so informative and helpful and the cottage was so cozy, clean and relaxing. Our daughters loved seeing the horses and we enjoyed listening to all the birds. A highlight was seeing the owl out the window while eating our breakfast. Thank you so much for a lovely stay, a true little gem hidden away.

We feel we were lucky to find this cottage available as we had to change our holiday plans very last minute (24 hours before arrival) because of the very windy weather that was being forecast and we did not want to be towing our caravan that we planned to stay in. We think that it was one of the best cottages that we've hired, and there have been many over the years as we have a dog and before we got the caravan most breaks that we took in the UK had been in cottages. It was clean, warm and comfy,a great base for our long weekend.

Very disappointed with this cottage, looked great on the Internet when we booked it. On arrival decor and furniture very dated and dirty. Kitchen inadequate in size and contents. Upstairs unliveable due to severely pitched ceiling and swarms of flies. Towels in the bathroom although plentiful looked unwashed. The best thing about the location was the pub down the road but you couldn't walk to it as there was no path. Otherwise you felt isolated and had a long drive to and amenities. We came home two days early as we could not put up with this any longer. The cottage ruined my birthday and our holiday.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Acorn cottage is a traditional Cottage with oak beams, traditional furniture and is a typical country style property. We have had a porch built onto the Cottage in February of this year (2015) and the entire Cottage was re-decorated. All carpets were replaced and new wood flooring fitted. New beds and pillows were purchased in July 2015. The Cottage was inspected by our Regional Manager in July 2015 and we retained our 4 star grading. The Cottage is thoroughly cleaned by three people prior to each guest's arrival and always checked. Customers enjoy their stay at the Cottage and many come back year after year, this has been the case for the past 12 years. Following your feedback, we inspected the property and the standard of cleanliness was high, no flies or dirt could be found. We do pride ourselves on high standards, and this is reflected by the vast majority of the feedback we receive.

A warm friendly welcome awaits visitors to this quiet rural cottage. The owner is a very pleasant lady who can't do enough for her visitors. The garden is secure and is both pet & child friendly. The cottage is warm, compact and pleasantly appointed, 12 miles from York you are ideally located to visit York, Sheffield, Hull & the surrounding areas.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; I am so sorry you found the cottage not to your needs. The cottage was completely spring cleaned over two days and was spotless when we left. The cottage is very well equipped with a sewing kit, iron, ironing board and a hair dryer. The kitchen has everything you could ask for. The beds and pillows are all new. We have not had any previous complaints therefore we are at a loss with your comments and scoring.
