Celebrate a special occasion at this farmhouse, with its own swimming pool, library, games room and large garden.

Set on the owners’ non-working farm in Horbling village, this detached farmhouse, with its own swimming pool, lies in the heart of the Fens, an ideal touring base for visiting the area’s wealth of historic attractions. Providing comfortable holiday accommodation for families, it retains many original features, including exposed woodwork, an ornate cornice in the dining room and a traditional farmhouse-style kitchen. There is a second sitting room, well-stocked library and video and DVD collection (including latest releases). Outside is a large, private, rear lawned garden with apple, pear, plum trees and gooseberries which guests are welcome to pick in season, and a large patio with garden furniture and barbecue. The fenlands make ideal walking and cycling country, an excellent way to view the landscape with its rich farmlands, huge skies and wonderful sunsets; walks can be enjoyed from the doorstep; facilities can be found nearby for golf, fishing or horse riding. Within easy driving distance are a wealth of interesting places, including the delightful old towns of Uppingham, Oakham and Stamford, full of beautiful stone buildings. On the edge of Stamford stands Burleigh House, one of England’s greatest Elizabethan houses. Nearby Spalding is an attractive, Dutch-influenced town and centre of the flower-bulb industry, where the Springfields show gardens and the annual flower festival in May are popular. Tattershall Castle (NT), Belton House and Coningsby, noted for its huge one-handed church clock, and the home of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. One of the landmarks of the Fens is the octagonal lantern tower of St Botolph’s Church in Boston. Shop and good pub with food ½ mile in Billingborough, or village pub 300 yards.

Nice place but in need of a bit of TLC. Bit too far away from the coast. Andy is a really lovely man and couldn't do enough for us. We enjoyed our week there and the pool was very handy. But we wouldn't stay again as not in the right area for us which is a shame.

A lovely house with something for everyone. Our ages ranged from 2 to 77 years and with 15 people altogether there was plenty of space to spend time together or seek peace and quiet! The pool and games room were an assets that were well used. Andy made us very welcome and told us all we needed to know to make the weekend go well. Would recommend the Plough for a meal, within walking distance and good food. Would not hesitate to go again. Jean P

Very well equipped, the pantry was excellent, overall a comfortable house and the pool is a great touch. Owner very helpful and accommodating. Games room is a bit overrated and could do with an overhaul.

The house was perfect for our needs. The dining room with its huge table and lovely crockery provided the ideal glamour for our Saturday evening gala dinner. Andy, the owner was very helpful and willingly provided us with additional hand towels and turned up the heating as the weather was cold.

A large property ideal for 4 families to descend upon in February for a weekend. A bit chilly but good value for money with decent local pub in the village.

We stayed at Abbotts farm as a group of 10 men celebrating a 50th birthday and found it to be a lovely, welcoming and comfortable house with ample sleeping room, a huge dining table suitable for 12, a good usable kitchen and two pleasant living rooms. As it was winter we cannot comment on the outdoor swimming pool but did explore the grounds to find the annexed games room (upstairs in a separate building by the car parking) and found it to be more suitable for children and lacking in the large snooker table offered at many similar properties. The area offers a nice pub just across the road, a small supermarket a short walk away and local countryside may well be very pleasant in the spring. We would be very happy to come back at the next birthday !

We stayed here for new year, with all our family. Very well equipped in the kitchen with plenty of cooking utensils etc. Bedrooms spacious and clean. We couldn't find a broom or mop though to clean the floors etc. Overall a very good stay . Thank you x

The best equipped kitchen I have yet come across in a holiday house. Fab walk in pantry with massive fridge freezer. Lovely comfortable house, all the better for being homely rather than luxuriously furnished, when you have children and dogs in the party! There were even plastic wine glasses. Everyone loved the huge dining table. And no one complained about there only being two showers, though someone observed that a working extractor fan would have been useful. (one lucky family got the en suite). The garden is great for dogs to rummage about in and the owner very welcoming. Useful to have a nice pub almost just across the road too. We never did find the 'games room' referred to in the brochure but the parents in the party were quite relieved I think. Two sitting rooms is ideal, kids can watch TV in one and everyone else is spared Cars 2 on repeat. The area is not the prettiest we have been to, it makes Norfolk look hilly, but we found a few good places to visit nearby even in mid winter. Our only observations are that the main oven does not get up to temperature properly, I think due to a damaged door that does not close properly (there is another oven large enough for our Sunday roast, so all was fine). Secondly I don't think you should market this house as 8 bedrooms and sleeping 18. Certainly not for an all adult party. The ground floor twin is very small and only accessible via the room with the sofa bed in it, (therefore not accessible that way if you have more than 16 people, because someone would be sleeping in that room) or via another bedroom up the back stairs. I think a fairer description would be 7 bedrooms, plus additional sleeping, sleeps 14 + 4. Having said that, for the price you pay, the house is great value for money, and we'd love to use this house again, we had a great time.
