Very nice 5 bedroom cottage in the borders. Very quiet location. Has a lovely homely feel. Although not been with small children it seems well equiped to cater for little ones. Brilliant social kitchen/ dining area. Reasonably spacious bedrooms. Clean and tidy. Due to time of year visited unable to take advantage of outside space but this does appear nice with a sheltered garden to the rear. Have been a regular visitor over a few years so it must have something good going for it.

Having stayed at Orchard Hume previously we were aware of the comforts of this home. The cottage is spacious and welcoming. The kitchen is a superb social space with a very homely feel to it. Cooking and preparation space is plentiful. The large dining table makes sure everyone can eat together. The wood burning stove adds extra comfort for colder evenings. Bedrooms are spacious, clean and comfortable, although I was advised by one couple that new beds may be possibly be required in one of the rooms. The outside space is ideal for enjoying a late evening gathering if the weather permits. The cottage is set in a very romote area but is still within a short drive to the likes of Kelso and Melrose. Due to the remote setting there are no local amenities to hand. There is evidence of the cottage being child friendly with various toys being made available for little ones. There are lovely walks to be had, the Eildon Hills in Melrose is recommended. A visit to Floors Castle is well worth considering, but check opening times. Cycling is a possibility. It's well visiting some of the local towns which are steeped in history. For those venturing further afield Edinburgh is only about 40 miles away. All in all a very enjoyable stay.

We very much enjoyed our stay at Hume Orchard Steading - there is plenty of room for everyone, the kitchen diner is an excellent place to gather and catch up. Our party consisted of three families and the arrangement of the rooms suited that really well - each family with their own area. The dog facilities provided were appreciated by our canine visitor, with the towels and bowl a nice touch. We spent a lot of time at the coast (40 mins drive) as the weather was great, with some fantastic coastal walks around St Abbs. There's also some pretty good cycling to be had on quiet and rolling country lanes - the 4 Abbeys circuit is recommended.
