Description

Situated on Ardura Estate World Heritage Site, renowned for its otters, delightful cottage with open fire, is ideal rural retreat.

On the sheltered south-east coast of Mull, between Craignure and Iona and overlooking the River Lussa and Loch Spelve, these two wonderful properties (refs USK and SAAX) enjoy a glorious secluded position within the 4,000-acre Ardura Estate. Bordered by the River Lussa to the north and east, and protected to the west by the masses of Ben Fhada and Glas Ben, the estate is home to highland cattle and sheep, as well as an abundance of other wildlife, including red deer, eagles, buzzards, seals and otters. The estate is recognised as a European Heritage Site for its otter population and ancient Caledonian oak forest. Craignure (6 miles) has a food shop, garage, post office, tourist information centre, pub and restaurant, and is the car ferry port to Oban. Ardura is a great base for visiting Iona, Tobermory and Duart Castle. Excellent hillwalking in the area. Nearby are a swimming pool, gym, health spa, golf courses and sandy beaches. Shops 6 miles.

Step to entrance. Open-plan living/dining room with open fire, rugs on tiled floor and fitted kitchen with tiled floor. Utility. Steep stairs to first floor: Two bedrooms; one double and one twin, each with built-in wardrobes and Velux windows. Bathroom with ¾-size bath and toilet.

Overall the cottage was ok as a holiday location. However, we felt it needs updating. The lounge seating is not as comfortable as it could be and the bathroom needs reassessment . It is almost impossible to have a shower in the bath without sending water over the edge of the bath and soaking the carpet below. At least a curtain to contain the water is required. The stairs are incredibly noisy when walked on. A basin in the kitchen sink would be useful as not everyone uses a machine to wash up dishes. Otherwise the kitchen was well equipped.

Lovely cottage in a great location. Very well looked after by the caretaker (thank you) and lovely and clean. We stayed with our daughter and son-in-law and there was something for all of us. Centrally located on the Island and everywhere was within reach. caught fish, saw an otter, sea eagles and golden eagle. Iona (and the journey there ) was beautiful and well worth the trip. Saw the north of the island and the stunning scenery on the west coast road back. Too much to do in a week and so will be back. Thank you!

We loved the cottage, which is very well equipped, including wifi, for its comfort, warmth and cheerful interior and the respect given to many original features. It was cleaned to a high standard. We liked the excellent location for its proximity to interesting attractions including wild life watching, and for fetching not too distant local provisions. It is an excellent centre for visiting everything that this beautiful Island has to offer. We were grateful for the compendium of advice provided in a where to visit "book" and made good use of this during our stay.

A lovely cottage in a good location. We enjoyed the natural setting, and enjoyed the meals at the pub in Craignure. The bird watching was great on Mull, and was great within a short walk from the cottage with oak woods offering spotted flycatchers, wood warblers, redstarts and treecreepers. We had only one problem and that was the quirky hot water supply to the upstairs bath which let up down for the last day. The local caretaker was very pleasant and helpful.

We had a super holiday on Mull that was only made all the better by this enchanting cottage and the warmth of our welcome. The cottage was very well equipped including excellent WIFI. On two nights we took advantage of the open fire which just added to the charm and with rabbits, deer and an abundance of birds in and around the garden you certainly knew you were in the country. There was a few minor considerations. The bath and shower are a compromise but there is plenty of hot water and we coped. The cottage is available for pet owners and we did find dog hair which didn't effect us but it might bother somebody who doesn't like dogs. The other issue is mobile phone signal. This is an issue all over Mull but there was no O2 signal in the cottage at all. We will be going back to Mull at some point because it is such a beautiful and interesting place and we would be more that happy to stay at this cottage again.
