English Country Cottages

From a touch of luxury to characterful heritage, experience one of our truly inspiring holiday properties.

Located in the Lake District, this cottage is situated less than a mile from Hill Top, home of Beatrix Potter.

Perfectly located in the heart of the National Park, this delightful holiday cottage (one of a pair) is peacefully situated on the lakeshore road, only yards from Esthwaite Water (fishing available), and less than a mile from Hill Top, home of Beatrix Potter and the famous Tower Bank Arms. Beautifully appointed in chic, contemporary style, the property retains its cosy cottage features. The front garden faces the lake, which has excellent views in winter, whilst the large rear garden backs onto woodland. Quintessentially English, this lovely area is steeped in history, and there are delightful walks direct from the doorstep. Hawkshead, Windermere, Grizedale Forest, Ambleside and Grasmere are local places of interest. Dove Cottage - the home of Wordsworth - is open to the public all year. Shops ¾ mile.

Step to entrance. Beamed living room with open fire. Garden/dining room with delightful garden view. Kitchen. Utility/boot room. Double bedroom with step up to en-suite shower room and toilet. Small step down to separate toilet. First floor: Two double bedrooms, one with 5ft bed. Twin bedroom. Feature cast iron fireplaces in all bedrooms. Bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet.

Firstly we enjoyed the holiday But a number of issues some mentioned in earlier comments going back sometime. Cottage Location 1. Next to a road which could be noisy, although mostly quiet. 2. Not much to do nearby. The grounds are mostly private including the Lake and its borders. Therefore you need a car and be prepared to use it regularly. 3. The next door cottage (not attached) looks to be in a state of poor repair which is off-putting. 4. Difficult to find in the dark. 5. Easy parking for only two cars. 6. As previously reported, access is difficult to walk as it is unkempt and (on our holiday) slippery. 7. The “local shop” at Far Sawrey is no-longer a grocery and Hawkshead is difficult to walk to (traffic). Cottage 1. Musty and damp feeling to the place. 2. Cold taps still difficult to turn off. 3. Kitchen equipment reasonably good but frying pans need replacing. 4. Needs more thorough cleaning-moved sofa to reveal a lot of dust, and old paperwork. 5. Living space more suited to 6 people. 6. Electrical wiring needs attention; some sockets are directly linked making it difficult to identify how to switch on some of the storage heaters (as previously reported). 7. Washer dryer broken-in view of general dampness this meant it was difficult to get washing dry. 8. Many notes around the place but could not work out which bins to put out and when. In the end left wheelie bin from Monday night but rubbish not collected. 9. The shelves in the wardrobe in the downstairs bedroom very narrow. 10. Beds rather hard. One final note it seemed that the milk delivery was rather forced on visitors (though we were happy with the service personally)

Excellent location in the centre of the Lake District. Peaceful with a great view over the lake.
