The Snowdonia region is a spectacular part of North Wales and a perfect holiday destination with 100 lakes, 90 mountain peaks, including the highest mountain in England and Wales, plus miles of lovely beaches and coastline. The choice of holiday cottages in or near to Snowdonia is vast and you could find yourself in County Conwy, Gwynedd, North Wales Borders or Caernarvonshire. You can be rural but walking distance to a nice pub, have an enclosed garden if taking young children or pets, a private hot tub or one of our luxury collection, the choice really is yours.
There’s a great road trip to get a snapshot of the area along Nant Gwynant to Llanberis, over the Miner’s Bridge in Betws-y-Coed finishing at Pontcysylite Aqueduct. The landscape is unique with steep river gorges, high mountains, waterfalls and green valleys along with an extensive network of trails right across the National Park, so perfect lovers of the great outdoors. Climb to the top of Snowdonia or catch the train on the Snowdon Mountain Railway, one of the most unique and wonderful rail journeys in the world.
Nature and wildlife enthusiasts can look for rare wild flowers, the Snowdon Lily can only be found in the national park flowering between May and July. Rare animals to spot are otters, polecats, feral goats, red-billed chough, peregrine falcon, red kite and get down low to find the famous rainbow beetle.
Adrenalin junkies will be pleased to find themselves in the zip line capital of the world and those who prefer to watch can enjoy the cafe with a viewing platform to get close to the action. Add to this a vast range of water sports and some wonderful horse riding and hacks, there really is something for everyone to enjoy.
History and culture buffs can visit the UNESCO designated castles and towns of Caernarvon and Conwy with some of the most significant sites in the world.
There are some wonderful beaches, a great favourite is Black Rock Sands with a wide open stretch of golden sand, caves and rock pools, perfect for a day out and picnic on the coast. Many of the beaches have restrictions if you have a dog at certain times of the year so it’s always worth checking.
Just outside the national park is Portmeirion built between 1925-1975 in the style of an Italian village. It really is a delight with stunning architecture and views, 70 acres of exotic woodland, lovely coastal walks and lots of places to sample the local cuisine, plus never too far from your cottage rental in Snowdonia. Make sure Snowdonia is top of your places to visit this year and a self-catering holiday cottage is the best way to enjoy a holiday here.
