What is it that draws thousands of tourists each month to Ceredigion and Cardigan Bay? It is not just the great beaches, the pretty villages and the many tourist attractions – it is the opportunity to get away from it all for at least a few days. Romantic cottages in Ceredigion are plentiful, and you could soon be spending some quality time with your other half in one of the most beautiful parts of the world.
Romantic getaways in Ceredigion mean that you are close to some of the best beaches in the country, many of which have won awards. The coastal villages of New Quay and Aberporth have beautiful beaches, and even though they get very busy in the height of summer, you can still find plenty of opportunities to enjoy time with your partner. Take a trip along the coast on one of the boats and you can see the local bottlenose dolphins at close quarters as well as the ancient smugglers’ caves.
New Quay is also the village that was popular with the poet Dylan Thomas, and there is a dedicated trail here for you to follow and find out more about his time in the village. With plenty of romantic cottages nearby for you to choose from, you can spend a little time in the Welsh bard’s favourite pubs and enjoy fish and chips on the sea front.
Just a little further up the coast is the pretty town of Aberaeron, one of the most popular places in Ceredigion for tourists. Here, you can spend time along the harbour or join the coastal path to hike to some of the nearby towns. Further north is Aberystwyth, known for being a university town but also home to plenty of tourist attractions such as the cliff railway. Take the railway to the top of Constitution Hill to enjoy the spectacular views of the town and the surrounding mountains. You can also hark back to the golden age of rail travel with a trip on the Vale of Rheidol Railway, which is a return trip to the waterfalls at Devil’s Bridge.
To the south of the county is the town of Cardigan. While it has some great shops, many people here on romantic getaways like to visit places such as the local nature reserves, where they can feel as though they are getting away from it all.
