The bustling and colourful coastal village of Seahouses is a popular destination for visitors to the Northumberland coast, with plenty of shops to potter around and activity in the busy harbour, where you can catch one of the boat trips to the nearby Farne Islands.
As with many coastal villages along Northumberland’s coast line, you are never far from an unspoilt, clean sandy beach. One of the most popular is the beach at Seahouses itself. A firm favourite with families, Seahouses Beach has a clear, uninterrupted view of the nearby Farne Islands.
Boat trips over to the Farne Islands leave on a regular basis and can be booked at the harbour in the town. Those with a love of nature or even just a passing interest are sure to want to take advantage of one of these boat trips, as the islands are renowned for its sea bird colonies especially in the breeding season, where some 150,000 birds congregate every year. If you visit in the autumn months be sure to look out for the grey seals that give birth between September and November.
Seahouses has a rich, maritime legacy and was once an important location for the fishing industry. Although commercial fishing has now declined here, you can still sample the wonderful seafood available in the many restaurants in town, or enjoy a fish and chip supper from one of the takeaways.
Whether you prefer a stroll around the harbour, or take to the Northumberland Coastal Path, a boat ride over to the Farne Islands or a visit to historic Holy Island and Bamburgh Castle, Seahouses has much to offer.
