Staying in luxury cottages in Sligachan is the best way to experience the magical Isle of Skye. You’ll be surrounded by stunning scenery and experience a memorable rural Scottish holiday in one of the most beautiful and unique locations on the island.
Many are drawn to Sligachan because of its close proximity to the Cuillin mountains, the most dominant feature of the island. These are a perfect arena for experienced walkers with a wonderful variety of challenging walks and climbs over the menacing crags and pinnacles including ‘the Inaccessible Pinnacle’. Less experienced walkers are also catered for with lower level walks and climbs and if you do want to push yourself hire a local guide who will let you walk on the ‘wildside’ in safety.
A more relaxing walk is around tranquil Loch Sligachan which sits at the edge of the village with breathtakingly beautiful scenery. One of the most recognisable scenes on Skye is a pretty stone built bridge over the bubbling River Sligachan with Surr-Nan-Gillean looming large to the right, it’s no wonder it graces so many postcards and canvasses. At the head of the loch is the Sligachan Hotel and the bar is busy and friendly with great food and drink.
The Sligachan River is renowned for its abundance of salmon with crystal clear water, making it the perfect place for a spot of fishing, walking or relaxing. Driving around the Isle of Skye is a great way to taking in the amazing landscape including the Trotternish Ridge, one of the finest ridges in Britain and lively fishing towns and harbours like Portree. Meanwhile, lovers of history will want to visit at least one of the castles to be found here. The most impressive of these is the magnificent Dunvagen Castle and Gardens in a stunningly beautiful location on the shore of Loch Dunvagen, a visit here will transport you back hundreds of years.
Luxury cottages to rent in Sligachan are hard to find so make sure you get yours booked and look forward to a holiday of a lifetime.
