The second-largest island of Scotland is the Isle of Skye and it also happens to be one of the most beautiful of the islands. With a number of luxury cottages to rent here, it could be the perfect place for you to have a holiday that you will remember for many years. The island is easily reached by ferry or road bridge.
Climbers visit the island on a regular basis, as they are attracted by the challenges of the Cuillin range of mountains. There are also a few challenges for climbers and hikers who visit the Old Man of Storr, close to the town of Portree. It is worth the trip, as the views are breath-taking.
Wildlife lovers will find plenty to see and do here. The Bright Water Visitor Centre has interactive exhibits, including a live otter webcam. You can also walk up to Neist Point, from where you might be able to see minke whales, dolphins and porpoises in the water.
The 14th-century Dunvegan Castle is the home of the clan Macleod. Spend a day here, enjoy a picnic in the grounds or just go for a walk. If you prefer, then you can spend an afternoon tasting whisky at the only single malt distillery on the island.
If you are interested in the island’s history, then there is St John’s Chapel at Caroy to explore. It is easily reached, as it is on the road that runs between Dunvegan and Sligachan. The churchyard is still in use even though the actual chapel no longer offers services. This is an interesting piece of island history, and many visitors drive past without even noticing it.
While spending time in one of our luxury cottages with your family, why not take the kids to see if they can spot a dinosaur footprint or two? Around the coast, there are several areas with sedimentary beds. Some of them are not easily reached, so you need to take great care, but if you head to Staffin Beach or Duntulm Beach, you will find it much easier. Staffin Beach is home to footprints that are 165 million years old.
After a long day of exploring, having a comfortable place to relax in is very important. Our luxury cottages with hot tubs are perfect, providing everything that you need to unwind with plenty of other features too. Call us now to book your dream Scottish break.
