Scotland Cottages

Scotland maybe a land of mountains, glacial glens and lochs, a wilderness hard to find these, but also boasts major cities and a rich history plus the first game of golf played at St Andrews in the 1400’s. There’s a great choice of family friendly self-catering cottages and by using our extensive feature list you can easily find your perfect one such as rural with an enclosed garden, near a village and pub or on the coast with a sea view. If taking toddlers many of the cottages have essentials such as highchairs, stairgates, cots and black out blinds to make your holiday more relaxing for everyone.

Southern Scotland has a colourful past, being so close to the border with England, and a wealth of treasure with many family attractions. The two cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow offer a vibrant culture and lively festivals; a jaunt up Arthur’s Seat and the castle are a great way to get your bearings in Edinburgh. Ayrshire boasts a lovely coastline and a trip to the isles of Arran or Cumbrae is highly recommended, or jump aboard a steam boat at Largs , the Waverley, for a very scenic day out at sea. Dumfries and Galloway has some lovely seaside retreats, Kirkcudbright is a great place to go and the Galloway Forest is perfect for outdoor activities and wildlife spotting.

Central Scotland is a wonderfully diverse area and boasts Loch Lomond and the Trossachs perfect for lovers of the outdoors including water sports enthusiasts. Argyll and Bute is home to Oban, known as the gateway to the Western Isles of Scotland including the fabulous isle of Mull. This is a busy thoroughfare but stay a while to visit the colosseum like McCraigs Tower with fabulous views over Oban Bay. Fife boasts world class golf courses, blustery beaches and charming fishing villages and Angus has breath-taking scenery, rolling hills and glens and white beaches. Perthshire has world class fishing rivers and fish ladders to watch migrating salmon leaping plus walks suitable for ‘wee’ legs. Stirlingshire is brimming over with thigs to do and see, visit Stirling and join an Old Town tour with a mix of comedy, drama and storytelling.

Northern Scotland is unbelievably beautiful and never fails to surprise and delight. Aberdeenshire, as well as the ‘granite city’, is home to a fabulous coastline perfect for family holidays and outdoor enthusiasts can venture to the Cairngorms. The Highlands can be explored on the NC500 driving route with lots of places to stop off, explore and stretch your legs. John o’Groats is Britain’s most north-eastern tip and from here you can catch the ferry to the Orkney Islands. On the west coast is the pretty town of Ullapool with ferries taking you to the Outer Hebrides. There are famous lochs and stunning canals plus Britain’s highest peak, Ben Nevis, you won’t be short of family fun things to do here.
