In the centre of Italy sits Umbria, a region known as the country’s ‘green heart’ due to the lush green landscape of the area, which provides the produce native to Umbria and makes for the impressive scenery for which it is known.
Nestled amongst the dense forest, there are small medieval towns that will be a draw for a keen tourist seeking a pleasant stroll. By staying in one of our holiday cottages with pools, you will be within easy reach of many small towns, such as Amelia and Orvieto, and have a great retreat in which to relax after your travels.
Guided tours of the region are available, which can be arranged in small groups to allow you to see the sights properly. Lake Trasimeno is certainly worth a visit if only to view the expanse of sparkling blue water. However, once you get over this amazing sight, you will find that you can also spend time by the lake fishing, canoeing or sailing. With the lake being surrounded by green hills, it is easy to get a good vantage point for a wonderful view of the whole environment.
The Nera River can be found in Umbria, which allows for several water-based sports such as rafting to take place. The pleasure of the water can be extended by staying in one of our cottages with swimming pools, in which you will be able to soak up the sun as you play and swim in water that no one else can access.
There are many small towns to be explored, such as Spoleto, Todi, Perugia and Assisi, where the buildings will remind you of a bygone era. This is also a great way to experience the restaurants in the area, as Umbria is a region well known for its food. Visitors will be treated to hearty pasta dishes and rustic soups that contain vegetables, beans and pulses.
There is plenty of opportunities to immerse yourself in culture while in Umbria, such as visiting the Galleria Nazionale dell'Umbria art museum, which is home to an extensive Italian art collection. There are many other cultural attractions in the vicinity that will keep you busy until you return to your cottage with pool, where you can relax poolside with a drink, splash around with the kids, swim a few lengths and prepare a meal to enjoy by the water.
