Home to the ‘Eternal’ city of Rome, Lazio not only states claim to this wonderful feast of cultural and historical treasure but also has areas of great natural beauty, beaches, lakes and rolling hills. Outside of the city, it attracts fewer tourists than some of its better known neighbours, but this region is most defiantly worth a second look. To explore all the benefits on offer here take a look at our collection of villas in Lazio.

Rome itself is one of the most visited cities in the world and no trip to Italy would be complete without a day or two in this famous romantic city. This is a place of famous antiquity that has survived to this day in modern Rome; visit iconic places like the Roman Colosseum, the Imperial Forums, the Pantheon and the Vatican. There are too many visitor attractions to mention here, but during your visit it’s possible to see a great deal in a relatively short space of time.

In addition to its rich culture Lazio has a number of nature reserves and parks; wild places which are home to porcupines, wild boar and lots of birdlife. One of which in the north of the region, bordering Umbria and Tuscany, is Monte Rufeno nature reserve, offering 7,000 acres of undulating oak forest, good walking and biking trails. To the south of the reserve are three volcanic lakes, of which Bolsena is the largest and well worth visiting.

If you want to be pampered check out the health and beauty treatments at the spas which can be found at Tivoli and Fluggi to the west of Rome and Viterbo to the north.

Head north of Rome towards Tuscany and you''ll find olive groves, vineyards and amazing examples of early architecture, such as the Church of Sant''Angelo in Viterbo. South of Rome you''ll find a number of smaller towns like Pantano Borghese and Frascati for a slice of rural traditional Italian countryside.

And of course a long established tradition of world-class white wines, plentiful olives groves and farm-reared prime cattle means you are never short of somewhere to find great food and drink.

Lazio has a lot to offer, whether you’re visiting Rome or fancy a relaxing holiday in rural Italy – or in fact both! To see self catering accommodation in this fascinating region please take a look at our villas in Lazio.
