Pay San Marino a visit, a mountainous medieval town on the slopes of Monte Titano with great panoramic views.
The most rugged mountains are found in Abruzzo, the highest summit of Corno Grande reaches 2912m and on its northern side is Europe’s most southerly glacier. Even in the busy tourist season it is quiet and a great place to get away from it all. The whole Lazio region, other than the city of Rome, is often overlooked but is full or wonderful places to visit and explore.
Unmbria is known for its rolling hills and rich history with hillside towns brimming over with culture and charm. Visit Spello with its medieval streets and age-old churches. Orvieto is considered to be one of Umbria’s most beautiful hilltop towns and sits high above a volcanic butt with panoramic landscape views.
