South East Ireland Cottages

Many people go to Ireland and rarely venture further than Dublin city, but with so many of our luxury cottages around the country, there is no reason to limit your exploring. There are so many destinations that you should not miss, from cultural attractions to fascinating towns and cities.

County Waterford is in South East Ireland and is home to the city of Waterford. With a history that can be traced back to the Viking era, there is a medieval feel to the town. Waterford Crystal, a popular choice for gifts, was founded here, and the brand has a new visitor centre. You can take a tour of the factory and spend a little of your hard-earned cash in the store.

This whole region has strong medieval roots, and you can see this again when you venture into County Kilkenny and Kilkenny city itself. With many ancient buildings such as the castle and the cathedral, there are plenty of historical attractions to visit. If you come here in the summer, there is an arts and comedy festival that offers something for the whole family.

You could take the kids to County Wexford and visit the Dunbrody Famine Ship. This is a replica of a vessel that took thousands of Irish people to the USA in the mid-19th century. Many came from estates in Wicklow, and when you visit the ship, you have the opportunity to learn more about the conditions on the voyage. With actors playing the parts of emigrants, you get a real taste of how life was for them.

Over in County Carlow, there is the Carlow County Museum. This is the perfect place for kids to learn more about how life has been in Ireland over the centuries. The building for the museum used to be a convent, and the original stained glass windows are still there. Exhibits include items from the cathedral and even the former gallows.

When you are planning to visit these places, make sure that you have the right accommodation. At the end of a day’s sightseeing, you can just head back to one of our luxury cottages with hot tubs to relax and enjoy the lovely country views. It only takes a few minutes to book one of our cottages, so why not reserve yours today and look forward to a holiday that will truly recharge your batteries?
