Although one of the more populated parts of France you can’t go far wrong choosing fishing cottages in Pas-de-Calais. The town is the largest fishing port in France and therefore has a wonderful fish market and is full of charm with lovely sandy beaches to cast off from.
Holiday cottages with fishing in Pas-de-Calais can be close to some lovely places. Near to Arras you can fish from the banks of the River La Scarpe or visit one of the many fishing ponds normally open between March and September. Arras is capital of this region and in the words of the Frenchis a ‘Gothic Pearl in a Baroque setting’ with many historic building to discover and no visit can be complete without a tour of the network of underground tunnels built during the First World War.
At Hesdin where the River Canche winds its way through the town there is good access for both the anglers and walkers, you can walk along both banks but the right hand side is more picturesque, you can catch trout, eel, pike and roach. Nearby Beaurainville has trout lakes plus a BBQ and games area for children if you’re on holiday with the family. Trout fishing is also available at Ecquimicourt at the Relais Detante.
St Omer sits on a hillside on the marshy banks of the River Aa and its confluence with the Canal de Neufossee. There is fishing on the river or canal or visit the many waters, rivers and marshes in an area called Claire Marais where you can take your pick from scenic fishing spots in this unspoilt nature reserve. For those not quite so hooked on fishing take a boat trip along the meandering water following the edge of the town, enjoy spotting wildlife and glimpses of the Grand Station of St Omer.
Nearer the coast is the chique resort of Le Touquet-Paris-Plage where the busy Parisians go to get some sea air at the weekend. The town blends old English charm with French style and you can cast out into the surf and catch bass swimming in the waves.
