Though the university town of Evry is fairly young as it stands today, it still has much to offer visitors to the region. There are a number of restaurants, a museum, and the Cathedrale de la Resurrection Saint Corbinien, which – unlike in many other parts of France – is actually a more recently constructed cathedral that was designed to blend in with its surroundings; however, this does not make it less impressive.
In addition to being able to shop for gifts and souvenirs in Paris, there are also markets that attract those seeking quality goods. In Meaux, there is a market operating several days of the week.
Provins is the town of medieval fairs, which it is specifically set up to host following its history of organising trade fairs. The town is also worth a visit for its restaurants and historic monuments, including the Saint-Jean's Gate and The Ramparts, which has been beautifully restored and offers clear views of the rolling countryside.
For those who want to do more than simply take in the view of the countryside, it is a good idea to take the time to visit Fontainebleau. Surrounded by the 200 sq km Forêt de Fontainebleau (Forest of Fontainebleau), it offers the perfect opportunity to get back to nature and put some activity into your holiday, such as hiking or rock climbing. The region is also home to the Château de Fontainebleau, which was home to French royalty.
