A holiday in the Yorkshire Dales will be extra-special if you choose cottages with hot tubs in Grassington. This is a gorgeous Dales village in Upper Wharefdale, in fact it’s a market town with a village feel and a bustling cobbled square at its heart.
Pretty shops and tempting cafes, pubs and restaurants are set around the square with gifts, arts and crafts, outdoor and country wear and local produce to buy, it’s a lovely place to sit and watch the world go by on a sunny day. Very often the square is full of Morris Dancers and in December the whole town is alive with a magical Dickensian Christmas Market and Fair offering a fantastic family festive shopping experience. In fact throughout the year the town hosts festivals and events attracting visitors from all over the world.
The tourist information office at the large car park below the village is a great place to start and full of things to do and see in the area. The Grassington Folk Museum is fascinating and full of local exhibits telling the life story of now and then in Upper Wharefdale. Down a side street is Grassington’s church built in 1811 which is well worth a visit.
A short 5 minute walk away is Linton Falls which are spectacular after a rainy period, a bridge takes you over the river and follow the footpaths to Linton, a delightful village with a traditional pub and old hospital, now luxury housing. On a nice sunny day there is nowhere nicer to sit and watch the ducks playing on the green and in the water of Linton Beck.
Walkers will be in paradise with the famous Dales Way passing nearby, starting in Ilkley and ending in Windermere. There are circular walks taking in rivers and dales and walk to Coniston Pie and down Coniston Dib, a stony limestone gorge taking you to Kilnsey with a lovely cafe and trout fishery. Cyclists can enjoy winding routes through stunning countryside and follow famous cycle race routes as well as challenging off road tracks.
In spring wild flowers adorn the fields and meadows and the famous dry stone walls keep the signature sheep at bay. The whole area is impressively beautiful so make sure you book your hot tub break in Grassington today.
