Winterton-on- Sea has a rich fishing tradition which is portrayed in the collection of old photos that can be viewed at the Coastguard Watch Tower on the beach. Winterton lighthouse, which was first built in the 17th Century and subsequently rebuilt several times, most notably after the First World War is today a private home, but it remains a village institution.
When exploring the village, it is impossible to miss the Church of the Holy Trinity and All Saints that dates back to the 13th Century. The tower of the church was built around 200 years later and remains the village’s most prominent landmark, as it is one of the tallest towers in Norfolk. The Church is also home to Fisherman’s Corner, where memorabilia of the village’s fishing heritage can be found, and memorials to those lost at sea. The village still has a small fishing community; try the traditional fish and chips during your stay!
