Lincolnshire Wolds Cottages

With wonderful footpaths and bridleways the Lincolnshire Wolds are a great place to stretch your legs, get some fresh air and explore unspoilt countryside. There is a great choice of holiday cottages in the Lincolnshire Wolds and by using our extensive feature list you can easily find the ideal cottage, such as enclosed garden if taking children or pets, village or pub within walking distance, or even a private hot tub the choice really is yours.

The Wolds is a term used to describe a range of hills and open country on a base of limestone or chalk. They cover an area of 216 square miles and the highest point is a very pleasant ascent to a trig point at Wolds Top, 168 metres high, the whole area is perfect for outdoor and nature enthusiasts.

The area was declared an AONB in 1973 and from the highest point on a clear day you can see across the water to Holland and with a wonderful variety of cottage rentals in the Lincolnshire Wolds you can have a perfect self caring holiday here.

Many people think the whole of Lincolnshire is very flat until they visit the picturesque rolling landscape of the Wolds, also known as Tennyson Country, one of the nation’s most famous poets. By staying in one of our lovely cottages you’ll be amidst stunning scenery with enough walks to keep you going forever right from your doorstep.

You can also visit Horncastle, Market Rasen or Caistor on the edge of the Wolds, these are ‘Walkers are Welcome towns’ and provide good hiking routes and facilities including tempting cafes, pubs and shops. Don’t forget the cathedral town of Lincoln which is a great day out and boasts a magnificent Cathedral and a copy of the Magna Carta.

For the more energetic there is the Viking Way, a 147 mile long distance footpath starting on the banks of the Humber passing through some of the best countryside in Lincolnshire and finishing at Rutland Water. This is also nice to walk in sections with your furry friend.

Other walks to consider are the Silver Lincs Way over the Eastern Wolds or perhaps the Lindsay Loop linking all the market towns around the Wolds AONB. There are also many shorter walks in the area and look out for the annual festival of walking usually end of May/beginning of June with a variety of walks to take part in, you really will be spoilt for choice!

The whole area is a hidden gem so make sure you have your camera ready to snap the sweeping valleys as well as stoats, badgers, hedgehogs and weasels.
