A county that has seen more than its fair share of conflicts in the past, Herefordshire is now a popular destination for dog walkers, ramblers, nature lovers and history buffs - a place where holidaymakers head in search of a little quiet reflection, or an epic adventure across the landscape. Situated on the border between Wales and England, Herefordshire is a fantastic base from which to explore the countryside, and the wide variety of activities and attractions on offer only further its appeal. If you are tempted by this central location, choose one of our cottages with swimming pools and allow yourself to indulge during your holiday.
The pretty market town of Hay-on-Wye is internationally renowned for its many bookshops and spectacular annual literary event, the Hay Festival, which attracts crowds of tourists in search of their favourite titles, author workshops and rare books. As you’d imagine, the town, which is nestled on the Welsh side of the border, is a haven of creativity and the arts - a place where people come to put pen to paper, or to be enthused by the ideas of others. The landscape beyond Hay, as it’s affectionately known, is just as inspiring as the town; the rolling agricultural land extends to the similarly pretty town of Kington, and beyond.
If you’re looking to experience the bustle of a city break among the beauty of a rural landscape, Hereford is the location for your holiday. A cathedral city, Hereford is blessed with numerous attractions, including the Black and White House Museum, Berrington Hall, Croft Castle, and the fortified estate at Hampton Court (not to be confused with its Surrey namesake!). Families will enjoy the Play Planet soft play centre, while everyone can explore the Herefordshire Trail. The towns of Ledbury and Leominster are equally blessed with architectural wonders, and you’re never very far at all from an entire world that sprawls at your feet to be explored.
A holiday in Herefordshire is one spent, for the most part, exploring the great outdoors. However, if you wish to stay a little closer to your accommodation for some downtime, consider one of our cottages with pools; what could be better than spending the day beside a glittering swimming pool that you’ve not had to travel to? Our Herefordshire cottages are stylish, comfortable and characterful, and many are blessed with either an indoor or outdoor pool. Wherever possible, these pools are private, though some cottage complexes may share use of a pool. Go on, dive right in - we hear the water’s lovely.
