The owners of Ysgubor Bach (Little Barn) justifiably claim that they are situated in the Welsh countryside at its finest! This delightful, 18th century, semi-detached cottage has been lovingly renovated by the owners to create a romantic retreat in what is still a largely undiscovered part of West Wales. Sited on a 9-acre working smallholding you can enjoy all aspects including rare breed pigs, sheep, chickens, geese and a resident Shetland pony. Ysgubor Bach, once a barn and grain store with thick stone walls, now offers contemporary country living for two in luxurious surroundings. The icing on the cake is the delightful enclosed garden and patio with a fabulous hot tub. You can sit under the stars and appreciate the sounds of nature whilst sipping on a glass of something chilled.
Many local public footpaths are available. One runs through the smallholding and opens up walking opportunities and enhances the owners designated dog walking areas with strategically placed picnic tables. Outdoor activities are in abundance in the area with walking, cycling, fishing and water sports all available. You are only a 30-minute drive from stunning Cardigan Bay and here you can explore the beaches and coves littered along it. Visit the quaint and colourful towns of New Quay and Aberaeron where a variety of events are held throughout the season. There’s a delightful choice of cafes, pubs, restaurants and independent shops. Why not take a boat to spot the resident bottlenose dolphins out in the bay? You can fish on the River Teifi or walk or cycle through the ancient Brechfa Forest. The bustling little town of Lampeter is just over 5 miles away and offers a range of amenities including a leisure centre, local museum and supermarkets, and a great choice of cafes serving homemade cakes. The regular farmer’s market is worth a visit and, if you are around in late July, don’t miss the Food Festival in the grounds of the university college.

Just 15 minutes further on from Lampeter you will find the fascinating Dolaucothi Goldmines (National Trust) where you can take an underground tour year round. Another National Trust property is Llanerchaeron just outside Aberaeron which can be reached on foot from the town along a level gravelled walk that follows the old railway line. The house is an elegant Georgian villa set in a wooded valley and is unaltered for over 200 years. The estate includes a farm, walled gardens and lake, and of course a cafe! Ysgubor Bach is waiting to welcome you to this most beautiful part of Wales where the local culture thrives and the possibilities for a lovely stay are endless. Beach 14 miles. Shop and pub 1¾ miles, restaurant 4 miles.

Ysgubor Bach was the location that my partner and I decided to retreat to for 4 nights as a small getaway to explore the area. Firstly, the owners Tim and Paula couldn't have made it a better experience. We were able to get on well with them immediately and they went beyond our expectations to make the smallholding more like our home, such as fresh flowers and even complimentary welsh cakes! The local area boasts a small drive to several places. We travelled to New Quay, Aberaeron and Lampeter and each were no more than a thirty minute drive (even being careful around the windy roads). It was even only a 45 minute drive to the "Black Mountain" road in the Brecon Beacons. The hot tub was a perfect way to relax in the evening. The fact that there was no light pollution in the area meant that we were able to look up and see the Milky Way very clearly with a few shooting stars too! All in all, we both thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Ysgubor Bach and we can't wait to come back!

We had a lovely 4 night stay at Ysgubor Bach. The cottage had everything we could need, cooking utensils, dog bowls and towels, tea, coffee and welsh cakes! Plus lots more. We spent most of the week either exploring the coast or relaxing in the cottage or hot tub. Paula and Tim were fantastic hosts and gave us a few recommendations of where to walk the dogs/things to see whilst we were down. Fantastic escape... just what we needed. Thanks again.

Lovely cottage owned by lovely helpful people. So relaxing and in the middle of nowhere, want to go back again. And our pug loved meeting the dogs on site! My only issue was the bed wasn't as comfortable as I would like

This is the second time we stayed here, its simply fantastic, the surrounding countryside is breathtaking. The grounds are wonderful. The beaches are half an hour away. The cottage offers peace and quiet while the main town of Lampeter is a short drive away. I can not recommend this cottage enough. If your thinking of booking it, just go ahead and book it.

Lovely week away. The cottage itself is brilliant, clean and full of everything you could need. Very comfy bed and I liked how we had access to amazon prime, nowtv and netflix. We loved how there were animals on the doorstep, we fell in love with the dogs completely. Everyone was very welcoming. Location, you're not very far from anything at all. It's actually a really good base for multiple days out. The only negative I have, is that when booking I wasn't aware of how overlooked the garden is. There is a small fence with a public walkway right next to the cottage. Even though it was very quiet, we were always a little on edge in case poeple started randomly walking up. Overall would definitely recommend.

Response on behalf of the Owner; Many thanks for your review and recommendation, it’s much appreciated. I understand what you say about the garden. We planted a hedge which is still growing, when we started to let the property to provide privacy to the garden. The road next to the cottage is our private drive and not very busy but appreciate your comments. Thank you.

This place has most definitely been one of our favourites. The owners were so friendly, we felt like we had known them forever. We loved their animals, the property, the location, we loved everything about this week away. We genuinely absolutely had the best holiday. The property was perfect, so clean, so tidy, so efficient, all you needed. The hot tub and privacy were spot on! Who needs holidays abroad - when we have places like this in the UK. The Ceredigion coastline was superb, coves and beaches and hidden gems a plenty. And wildlife - we saw it all, even dolphins! Thank you Paula and Tim and all the lovely animals - you made our week. We had a wonderful time and would 100% recommend staying here! Fabulous!

It was so good to meet you both and we're so pleased that you enjoyed your holiday - you made our week too.

This is a lovely place that is well equipped and feels very private despite being attached to a neighbouring property. Paula and Tim have made best use of the space and made it a home from home with all the facilities you'll need for a relaxing stay. A car would be advisable as the location is somewhat secluded but this just adds to the relaxation. A great base to explore the surrounding areas with fanatic walks, beaches and mountain biking within easy reach. Then relax those tired legs with a soak in the hot tub. Would definitely recommend and stay again. Thanks!

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you so much for such an informative and lovely review, lots of useful information. We very much look forward to welcoming you both again in the future and of course the lovely Lucy.

We had a lovely welcome to this beautiful cottage. Loved the peaceful location which is only a short drive to the town of Lampeter which has 2 supermarkets as well as some nice small shops. Also a short drive to the stunning coast. We enjoyed the visits from Dave and Sue (geese). The hot tub was a fantastic added extra. We would thoroughly recommend and hope to visit again.
