Probably the best cottage we have stayed in, warm, spacious, great location, our young Labrador (Holly) particularly enjoyed the open field at the rear of the cottage, with great views of the lake from the top and a nice easy country walk into Bowness, a couple of friends joined us for the weekend so the two bathrooms were a great plus. the lounge, kitchen and bedrooms are very spacious and we had everything we needed, parking is easy, hope to book Yew Trees again at least once this year. Eric.

Yew Trees is in an excellent location allowing you to walk into Winderemere and Bowness or enjoy country walks from the door. The property has a great layout with very comfortable settees and comfortable beds and an excellent on-suite shower room although I cannot say the same about the over bath shower. Thank you for the bottle of fizz which was so good I went and bought another bottle. During our stay there was a short power cut in the evening and when we went to look for the torch we found it was missing. Also found that the knives in the kitchen were so bad that they were almost dangerous to us when attempting to cut an onion. I noted in the visitors book that someone had mentioned this back in April. The equipment and layout of the kitchen was excellent but extractor fan could do with cleaning/replacing. I found that the front on the top left drawer on the chest of drawers in the twin room pulled off because it hadn't been glued on. I also noted that the light when entering the basement/Garage area was very poor at illuminating the room an as this is down a couple of steps I would suggest that it is replaced with a different bulb. On entering the property at the front door we noted that there were no coat hooks in the hallway but there were some useful seats available to sit and pull footwear on. This is a good property in an excellent location which could be made great with a few tweaks such as loosing the piano and replacing it with a bookcase or other useful piece of furniture. I would also consider turning the bathroom into another shower room but I realise some visitors particularly those the children may want a bath. The exterior of the property and grounds could do with some TLC which would also make it more attractive and safe to use. It may also encourage visitors to use the rear door into the basement/garage to bring in muddy/wet equipment where I noted there were door hooks and drying racks. On another note I would recommend the Prince of India in Winderemere if you are looking a takeaway.

Comfortable, spacious relaxing bungalow. Parking space difficult to get in and out of, and garden in need of some attention, but overall a place we would consider staying at again

Good choice for those who have no car and can walk well. Supermarket and station only 15 minutes walk, lakeside and town takes a little longer but worth it. Plenty to explore in Windermere and Bowness area. Onsite parking is poor and difficult in the dark. Bed is very uncomfortable. Many issues with little, annoying, things, well recorded in the visitors book and ignored by the owners. Not awful by any means, but not on our list of properties for a second visit.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; The parking at the property is not poor, it is possible to either reverse or drive into the parking space. We have a large pickup truck and the cleaning company have a large transit van, and along with the various other trades people and not least our other many guests who have stayed at Yew Trees, no one has had said that they have had issues with the parking. There is a sensor light directly above the parking area plus a sensor light on the front porch of the property. If a guest is not competent in parking or has a very large vehicle then there is plenty of street parking on the road just outside Yew Trees property. The comfort of a bed is a very personal thing, some people prefer a hard bed, some a soft bed. If the guest had read our other guest comments, they would have seen many comments on how comfortable the bed is. Unfortunately, the guest does not elaborate on what the little annoying things are but we do read our guests comments and do appreciate and take on board their constructive comments. We have a very good housekeeping company that the guest can contact who have gone round to the property to sort out little issues, such as replacing batteries, light bulbs, help understanding the recycling bins, and other matters that the guests have contacted us about during their stay. We have had Wi-Fi installed in response to our guest’s comments. We do not ignore our guest’s feedback but value their comments.

We enjoyed our holiday very much, and have stayed at Yew Trees a few times. Some of the kitchen equipment is getting a little tired - the knives could do with updating I felt that I was cutting up veg's with a meat clever! It was the only one that could cope with carrots. I also felt that it wasn't quite as sparkling as usual. We also had a problem with the shaving mirror in the bathroom - the light wasn't working and was out of use all week - don't know if the problem had been reported sooner.

Well equipped and comfortable. However, on approach the property did not look very inviting - paintwork needs attention and the front garden is quite overgrown. Parking in front of garage is quite difficult. Even so the inside of the property was clean and spacious, and it is likely we will return.

Overall a great cottage. Best points great location fantastic shower lovely view from the front room. Downside, cheap cutlery, cheap towels & the cottage wasn't very clean. Mould on ceiling in shower which had obviously been there for some time. A used disposable shaving blade was on the floor in the bathroom. The bungalows furnishings are old fashioned and it desperately needs a makeover but all the basics are good. Also I formed the impression the neighbours just above us were not very friendly and the car parking was a bit of an issue.

Lovely location close enough to walk to Windermere or Bowness and the single track road beside the bungalow leads up to the folds and a beautiful tarn within a mile so we really liked the location for dog walking. The decor is a little dated and the garden is only a small trianglular patio at the front of the property which is open to drives to other properties and the road so not possible to let our dog outside unless on a lead. We failed to check WiFi availability before we booked and did find it inconvenient not having WiFi , perhaps the owners would get more booking if they did install free WiFi?
