Description

Charming 17th Century barn with a quirky layout and stunning views from the balcony. Quiet courtyard setting with hot tub and sauna.

This beautiful 17th-century barn situated on a mixed working farm, is set in the peaceful surroundings of the Rusland Valley and the entrance into the holiday property is through the original great barn doorway. The sitting room has valley views from the balcony and the layout on the second floor is quite unusual. Stairs lead up to a half landing, where they divide. One stairway takes you to two bedrooms; one a double, the other, below a truss, through a 3ft high small door leads into a twin - think Alice in Wonderland. With pitched roof and oak beams it is sure to please both adults and children. The other stairway leads to a further double bedroom. To the rear you have a courtyard with private entrance and grounds which offer ample space to relax and the hot tub and sauna will provide fun and relaxation for both adults and children. The valley itself has lanes ideal for cycling and easy strolls and, all a short walk from the house, you come to a track leading through woodland and on to High Dam, a pretty tarn, with a circular route and opportunity to laze on the banks, paddle and swim. At the head of the valley is Grizedale Forest with its many trails and the Go Ape aerial walkways through the tree tops. A few miles east lies Newby Bridge, and the southern basin of Windermere. To the north are all the fells and mountains, or go south and you will discover the coastline, with its villages and walks. Shop 7 miles, pub and restaurant 3 miles.

Spacious accommodation in a rather remote location between Lakes Windermere and Coniston. Great if you're a mountain biking enthusiast as Grizedale Forest is just up the road. Although many of the roads in the Lakes are narrow, the ones around here test even the experienced driver! It was a family get together, 6 adults, 4 children of various ages under 10, and a dog. We all had a good time despite mixed weather. The hot tub was a bonus with adults and the older children. Would we use it again? - possibly because accommodation for 10 with a dog is not that common. Our family is however 'bike mad' so proximity to Grizedale Forest is a plus.

Brilliant house for 10 people. Very well equipped and lots of communal indoor and outdoor space. Very good sized dining table. Is bigger than the pictures make it look of kitchen and dining area.

I stayed here at wood view and it was an amazing trip! I came with 7 of my friends and each of us enjoyed our stay here. We we're slightly mis-informed because we thought that the whole house was ours and wasn't told that the jacuzzi and BBQ was shared with the house next door, luckily they didn't arrive so we had it all to ourselves. We had a few issues with the jacuzzi turbing off but we figured out how to fix it. The beds were very comfy and the house was overall very clean. Few spiders here and there but what so you expect living next to a farm! Also there is loads of flies but keep the doors shut and you will be okay, there was also fly spray provided too, they can't help it being positioned next to a farm. The house is very large and has 3 stories. 2 bedrooms downstairs on the 1st floor and 3 bedrooms upstairs on the 3rd floor. The second floor has a kitchen and living area. The wifi isn't amazing but it was free and we were all able to connect with no major complications. The scenery is very nice but 20 minutes away from the nearest shop. Overall though it was fantastic and very sad to be going home! The sauna was also lovley but needs time to warm up but wasn't an issue. Thank you for our amazing stay!

This is the second time we have stayed at Wood View to celebrate birthdays and everyone has thoroughly enjoyed themselves each time. It's perfect for a lovely small family celebration. I love the character of the house, the location and the privacy and would definitely love to stay again.

Went for a birthday weekend and the cottage was beautiful. Everything was clean and tidy. The views are amazing. Been next to a working farm you have to get use to the smells. However the poor cows had to get used to us been in hot tub making a noise.

Great location, we felt totally relaxed and away from it all. The accommodation is set out really well, we had 2 families staying together and had plenty of room. The only negative was we had to guess the oven temperature as numbers worn off. I would happily come back.

We went as a family for my husband 70th birthday and had a lovely time together. Unfortunately the same problems which we have read on previous reviews were present ,dishwasher did not clean very well ,so most things had to be rewashed by hand and you did not have a clue what temperature the oven was on. It seems a little problem but when cooking for 10 people quiet important. Why can't it been mended?
