Description

Enjoy a romantic break at this cosy cottage, which is located in the perfect spot for those visiting Durham, 10 miles.

Situated in the quiet village of Sunniside, just 10 miles from the city of Durham, Winter Cottage is the ideal base for couples wanting to really explore the local area. Perfect for walkers, cyclists, romantic breaks and guests wanting to visit family and friends at Durham University, this terraced cottage is in the perfect location. The popular market town of Wolsingham, 4 miles, boasts some excellent quality restaurants, pubs, cafes and bistros, where local produce is served daily. Today, Wolsingham is still a small market town looking much as it did hundreds of years ago with many stone built buildings, period features and links to its long history. It is now a thriving town which is very popular as a stopping off point for guests visiting the Weardale Valley.
The cottage is a great gateway to the nearby Durham Dales where the scenery and surroundings can only be described as breathtaking. With many established footpaths leading directly from the village, guests will be able to explore some of the most magnificent countryside, landscapes and views that the county has to offer. For couples who enjoy a theatre break, Durham offers the Gala Theatre which is open all year round.
Local historic attractions include Durham’s castle, cathedral and the city walls. The River Wear runs through the city and guests can enjoy a romantic boat trip or a glass of champagne by the riverside. Filled with quality restaurants, bistros, cafes and bars, the city is thriving at night and there is often street entertainment to enjoy including the Lumiere Festival, jazz festival, book week, arts week and many more. Durham University can be easily reached from Winter Cottage making this the perfect location to stay for graduation and student visits. For those who love shopping, there are many designer boutiques in the city, as well as the famous Metrocentre, which is situated in Gateshead near Newcastle upon Tyne, approximately an hour away. Many National Trust and heritage sites are within easy reach including Barnard Castle, Raby Castle, Bowes Museum, Beamish and High Force Waterfall.
Winter Cottage is a large terraced house, on the ground floor there is a living room with many original features and also a large dining room/kitchen. There is a ground floor bathroom and on the first floor, there is a double bedroom and a shower room. Outside, relax in the garden area on a summers evening with a glass of wine. Loved the area, nice cottage let down by poor maintenance Sun deck springing apart causing trip hazards, back door lock needs attention, back door handle falls off, frying pay non stick surface coming off, freeview box causes tv to freeze, shower needs mat it's difficult to get out of without slipping...all easily fixable problems

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your feedback. Having seen the decking the area which gave concern, it has now been fixed, the door handle has been replaced and a new pan and shower mat supplied. I could not find a fault with the TV.
