Built in the early 1800’s, Willow Cottage is a sandstone, terraced cottage, tucked away down a cobbled street in the conservation village of Wolsingham. Perfectly situated in picturesque Weardale, Wolsingham is located in the North Pennines and is part of a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It offers three welcoming local pubs that serve excellent food, as well as a good choice of cafés and local shops selling a range of goods, all within walking distance from the cottage.
Perfect for guests wanting to really explore the local area, Willow Cottage is in the ideal spot. Only a short distance from the cathedral city of Durham, 16 miles, guests will find plenty of historic attractions including Durham Cathedral and Durham Castle, as well as a variety of boutique shops, cafés, bistros and tea shops. Ideal for guests wanting to enjoy a romantic break, there are also plenty of riverside walks, street festivals and artists, theatre, cinema and leisure centre in the heart of the city. Ideal for a trip to Beamish, guests will find this popular tourist attraction only 16 miles away too. Also perfect for walkers, cyclists and ramblers wanting to explore the Durham Dales and North Pennines, guests will find plenty of established local footpaths, cycle paths and bridleways that lead directly from Wolsingham and into some of the most spectacular countryside.
The popular town of Stanhope is only 6 miles away and guests really must visit the Durham Dales Centre, where there is information regarding walks and cycle routes, a tea room, café and shops, as well as plenty of information regarding local history in the area. The lead mining museum in Killhope is 20 miles away and is another popular attraction, it shows the history of how lead was mined by generations of miners who lived in the Weardale area. Newcastle-upon-Tyne, the Metrocentre, Barnard Castle, Bishop Auckland, Derwent Reservoir and Alston, which is the highest market town in England, can all be reached within an hour’s drive and really are worth a visit.
A little further afield but still within an 1½ hour driving distance, guests will be able to take a day trip to the Lake District, Northumbria and Hadrian’s Wall, Middleton in Teesdale and the High Force, which is the highest waterfall in England.
Cosy and compact, Willow Cottage offers a warm welcome to guests of all ages and at any time of year. On the ground floor is a small living room with electric coal-effect fire and plenty of character including oak floors and exposed beams, which leads on to a small kitchen with good quality appliances. On the first floor guests will find a well-presented double bedroom and en-suite shower room. Shop, pub and restaurant 200 yards.
