The abbey is located at the top of the 199 steps, providing stunning views of the town and the coastline below. The bi-annual Gothic weekends takes place in April and October where the town is flooded in fabulous costumes and characters here to celebrate the festival.

The cliff walks form part of the Cleveland Way, meandering through heather covered moorland and tiny hamlets with paths leading to quiet fishing villages.
