This cosy detached, beamed 200-year-old cottage, with a delightful west facing garden with views over the Berkshire Downs, nestles in a small hamlet outside historic Abingdon and a few miles from Oxford. On the banks of the Thames, Abingdon, purported to be the oldest town in England, is steeped in history with many fine old buildings. Oxford is the city of dreaming spires famous for its university, the Bodleian Library and Inspector Morse. There is so much to do and see in the area including boat hire, walking in the Downs, cycling on the National Cycle Route or spend a day at Blenheim Palace and finally return to the peaceful cottage garden and watch the sun set over the Berkshire Downs. Golf at Frilford Heath 2 miles. Shops 2 miles, pub ¼ mile.

A lovely, quaint but small cottage. The kitchen, for example is 'one in - one out'! However, the cottage is well equipped, there is everything you need and a lot more! And some lovely extras provided by the owner, wine, chocolates, biscuits and much more, thank-you. Be aware you definitely need a car as there is very little other than the Blackhorse pub nearby, however Abingdon and Oxford are only a short drive.

We enjoyed spending the week around New Years Eve in this cute, very quiet and cosy cottage surrounded by a marvellous area. The cottage has been very well equipped and provided us with everything we needed. We would recommend this cottage to parties of two adult persons who both have a body length of maximum 170 cm because it's quite small and most doorways and ceilings have a low max headroom. It contains four sleeps and two separate bedrooms but the kitchen and living room are quite tiny to accommodate four adult persons sufficiently. As we stayed in the Westover cottage during the winter season we had some difficulties in regulating the (traditional) heating system. But may be that has to do with the fact that we are not familiar with the heating system in this cottage.

Lovely little cottage. Missed the turnoff in the village in the dark.

Excellent and cosy place to spend a quiet week and, if you have the urge, somewhere from which you can take off and explore Oxford and the surrounding area. Every piece of equipment worked except the security key holder which would not close, and one portable heater, even though I replaced the fuse in its plug. Combined CD player and radio also a bit of a mystery! A really good feature is the open hearth and the chance to have a fire - logs were supplied but if you want more go to B and Q or Homebase just down the road into Abingdon after the A34 interchange. Best local pub is the Merry Miller at Cothill - good food and drink and log fires. Beware of a very busy road just beyond the lane on which the Cottage stands. Cars are driven at well over the 40 MPH limit supposedly in force. Not easy for pedestrians. Information left for visitors very thorough.

A perfect week away in this cosy cottage. Days out in Abingdon and Oxford and a few lazy days spent at the cottage. We enjoyed watching the rabbits and the red kites in the field behind the garden and star gazing at night... amazing. Thank you for having us Westover Cottage xx

Really nice cottage where we were made to feel very welcome.... fluffy towels, chocolates in the bedrooms, fresh flowers, milk & juice in the fridge and a bottle of wine! The cottage itself is comfortable and larger than I was expecting from the website photos. It is away from the main road and so relatively quiet and the garden was a plus with our dog.
