Situated in West Pentire, this detached house is ideal for walks along Porth Joke Beach or exploring Newquay.

This welcoming, detached, granite house, built in 1870, is ideally situated in the small, quiet and beautiful hamlet of West Pentire. There is no through access elsewhere by car, and it is a short walk to the headland. Because of careful management by the NT, there is a profusion of flowers and birds, including larks, in season. The sandy Porth Joke Beach and Crantock Beach are a few minutes’ walk from the house, though at high tide access to Crantock Beach is through the dunes and takes a few minutes longer. Both are ideal for children and surfers. For miles of coastal walks join the Coastal Path here. Further afield there are numerous opportunities to explore Newquay, including Fistral beach, 5 miles, Padstow, Truro, Penzance, the Eden Project, the National Maritime Museum in Falmouth, famous houses and gardens. There are countless attractions for children. Shop 1 mile, pub 100 yards.

Ground floor: Living/dining room with patio doors. Second living room with single Z-bed (for flexible sleeping arrangements). Kitchen. Shower room with toilet. First floor: 4 bedrooms: 2 twin, 1 single leading to further single. Bathroom with bath, shower cubicle, bidet and toilet.

    This is the third time we have stayed at West Pentire House and as always thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We did however stuggle with some of the cooking as there was not anything big enough to cook in for several people i.e a large saucepan or large cooking pot. And one of the upstairs bedroom doors sticks and can't be opened from the inside (this was also like this four years ago and my granddaughter got trapped inside) only minor problems though, can't fault anything else.

    Th biggest single criticism we have is the lack of general information, for instance had it been a busier time of year we would have had to pay for daily parking, there is no designated parking area for one car let alone several, it sleeps seven so there could have been more cars. A general lack of thought and consideration was evident and had we not bought, coal and logs and had an open fire we would have been cold, the night storage heaters were never warm when you needed it. We also had brown water coming out of the bathroom taps and toilet without warnings and had to then buy bottled water. There are no instructions about where anything is with regard to the utilities etc and the DVD had a split screen and the two remotes did not work. Generally needs more thought, it was as if the owner could not be bothered. The local contact kindly left us fresh baked scones, jam and cream and. A pint of milk. The local pub excellent and the house could have been wonderful had a bit of thought been offered. Can smell damp in the kitchen and second sitting. Lovely location and have A plan to return but not to this property

    We had a great week. The house was perfect size wise for us though accessibility wasn’t perfect for my elderly father but that wasn’t the house’s fault! We had 3 generations and it worked well. Location was great and perfect for our needs. Knowing the local area well, the house was perfectly placed for everything we needed. It was clean and has everything we needed. Only small downsides were that it’s not made clear where you can park and we ended up paying extra for parking. Also there are no instructions with regards to rubbish and it took us a while to find the outside bins but it’s not clear which bin us for what rubbish. Some general everyday living advice would’ve been handy but they’re only minor niggles and didn’t affect our holiday. Myself and the children would stay again in a heartbeat but wasn’t really ideal for my elderly father. Wi-Fi would’ve been an added bonus to keep children entertained on wet days!

    Absolutely lovely cottage. Plenty of room for the 6 of us. Everything was there that we needed. The scones were a lovely gesture too! Lovely garden. Could do with a permit or similar to let people park at the pub, just for piece of mind.

    A lovely holiday in a wonderful location. The house is full of character and very well equipped, with a lovely walled garden. Good that there was no wi-fi!

    Lovely house but could be better with some attention to few issues such as smell of damp especially in small living room which needs moderising very old fashioned furniture also not nice when you open kitchen drawers and it all smells damp. Windows hard to shut as were some doors. We had no hot water, when we reported this someone did arrive within 10 minutes to fix it but only worked for a couple of days, then kept tripping out, we left a note about this so hopefully will get fixed. Apart from the damp the rest small minor improvements like maybe a bathroom cabinet, and a blind in the downstairs bathroom would be somewhere to recommend. It is a lovely quiet spot and the lovely garden is a sun trap, if the sun comes out! Room to park around the back of the property, we got three cars in. No shops nearby so have to go to Crantock village about 25 minute walk away. Would we stay here again, probably not but simply because we prefered it closer to the village (we normally stay at the caravan site) but if you want quiet and like walking idea place for you. Oh just to mention we were left a cream tea which was lovely to have on arrival.

    I was with my wife and four teens, easy access for two beaches crantock and Polly joke beach. The bowgie inn was within 100 yards for good food and refreshments. Facilities in the cottage were good but in some places needed some TLC, however this did not detract from out week in the cottage.

    We enjoyed our stay and liked the house, in particular the bedrooms and living /dining room, and also the garden. Not so keen on the outside shower/toilet. We have been staying at Crantock Bay for many years, and for the first time this year the surfing there was not recommended, and we had to drive elsewhere where parking was a bit of a problem. Beware parking at Watergate Bay and Fistral!
