The ancient farmhouse at Werngochlyn dates back to the 12th century. It nestles in open farmland underneath the Skirrid Mountain and the four comfortable holiday cottages are sympathetically converted from stone farm buildings set around the farmyard. The setting is perfect for children of all ages (adults too!). There is plenty of room to run around and explore – and plenty of animals to befriend…. a pair of Kune-kune miniature pigs, a very large Gloucester Old Spot, a donkey, goats, sheep, chickens (you can collect your own eggs for breakfast if you want to), ducks, dogs, cats and loads of horses and ponies – including a tiny rescue pony named Tinkerbell.
You could stay around the farm all day – with a heated, indoor swimming pool, hot tub, games room and riding school on site with tuition for all ages from 4 years plus and then a BBQ in the evening. There are footpaths running directly from the farm and dogs are welcome. You are ideally place to explore the Brecon Beacons, Black Mountains, Usk and Wye Valleys and the fantastic countryside that surrounds the nearest market town of Abergavenny which is only 3 miles away – home of the Food Festival. It boasts good shops and a market, a cinema, theatre, castle and museum as well as good choice of pubs, cafes and restaurants including Michelin starred ‘Walnut Tree’ which is within walking distance of the farm. An 18-hole golf course and driving range is only ½ mile away. An enjoyable stay that will have you wanting to return. Shop 3 miles.

A great place for those who want a lovely tranquil setting. The farm animals are a major bonus for those with small children.

Beautiful cottage and surroundings. Plenty of things to do in nearby Abergavenny!! Hot tub wasn’t working which was a shame and no tea, coffee, shower gel so pack some essentials. But would definitely go again, such a lovely place, farm yard animals to pet and made good use of the pool.

The cottage was a good size in a lovely location, we followed the sat nav and it was easy to find. The cottage was looking a bit tired and dated could use some minor repairs,For example there was a large gap in the wood in the front door. The cottage could benefit from some basic essentials like a small tea coffee sugar pack, when you arrive and hand soap in the toilet. When you arrive it says to call the owners but there was no signal, it was open so we let ourselves in. We found all the information we needed in the visitors folder in the entrance hall. The games room was a good size however the pool table could do with a new cover. Ping pong was fantastic. The pool was a great size however the whole pool area needed some repairs the pool lining was damaged, the roof was sagging, the doors were difficult to open and all the paint on the door frames was peeling off. The pool water had a green tinge an wasn’t the cleanest, but it was warm. The hot tub was luxury but the chlorine stung your eyes an made it hard to breathe it had A yellow build up round the waterline. The animals were well kept and charming the children enjoyed checking for eggs but the hens eggs were all broken each day. We chose to stay here as it was dog friendly our collie enjoyed the farm an cottage but we had to drive to take him for a walk as all the fields by the farm had styles and fences that he couldn’t get through. The lack of phone signal meant we didn’t get to book horse riding which was a shame. My daughter enjoyed the play area. Overall we enjoyed our time with a little tlc this would be an amazing place to stay. Some family board games / books would be a great addition to the cottages
