Various activities locally include National Trust properties and Crealy Adventure Park. The town is only 10 miles from the historic county town of Exeter, with its spectacular cathedral, the historic quay, boats to take you to tucked away pubs, kayaking and canoeing, and Killerton House, with its splendid gardens. 10 miles in another direction is Torquay and the English Riviera, with its numerous tourist attractions, including award-winning Paignton Zoo, the model village, steam train, boat trips to Brixham and lively nightlife in Dartmouth. For hiking, cycling and the great outdoors, Dartmoor National Park is only 15 miles to the west. Lovely cottage, we have booked again. Needs better beds and bedding to make it warrant it's cost and for todays market needs WIFI. There was also no proper breakfast bowels which could be easily rectified.

The cottage was just what we were looking for - ideal for a family gathering and a great location . We were slightly disappointed with the overall cleanliness of the place - we were told that there had been two big dogs the previous week but expected the standard of cleanliness to have been higher. We would come again with these issues addressed. Overall a great holiday for the whole family. Wifi would be useful.

Weir Cottage was a lovely little place to stay, very well equipped and in a great location for beaches and days out.

have stayed at weir cottage before and we were really looking forward to staying again. when we arrived no towels had been left for us which although promptly provided did not sit well when one of us would have liked to have had a shower to freshen up after our long journey. the beds were too hard - it was like sleeping on the floor. not much sleep was had. most of the mugs were stained and a half eaten biscuit was found in one of the cupboards. the cookware provided really needs updating - a good frying pan at least. could not take advantage of the outside garden area as the patio door could not be opened. but the worse thing was the amount of black hairs all over the property. on the floor, beds and even in the bath. a decent vacuum cleaner is definitely required. we paid a lot of money to stay here but do not think we really got value for money.

Lovely cottage. Everything we needed. Plenty of space. Good outside space for dogs only down side dogs like to go on grass & there isn't any at Weir cottage.

Weir cottage has a few things going for it. First, the location is fantastic: right in the middle of the charming village Dawlish, close to shops and restaurants, a six-minute walk from the beach, yet also quiet and with a nice garden next to the stream. Second, the cottage is very spacious, with a large living room and a very large kitchen with some more sofas. In this respect, it is quite comfortable. There are some drawbacks too, however. The cottage was not clean at all -- it sort of looked clean at first glance, but we soon discovered badly washed dishes, lots of sticky doors en knoppen van kastjes, large amounts of popcorn in one of the sofas, large amounts of dust underneath another sofa, a very sticky high chair for our baby, mold in the bathroom, a dirty oven, and so on. This did not make us feel welcome. Other aspects of the cottage weren't quite up to the expectations set by the price level either. The pots and pans are definitely in need of replacement; the collection of glasses is highly eclectic and short on normal glasses for everyday use (although there are more than enough champaign and cognac glasses, should you need them!); and the beds were uncomfortable narrow. Some of the furniture is also badly in need of repairs (e.g., the doors of the wardrobe in the bedroom overlooking the garden). The fact that there's no wifi in the house is hard to understand, although we knew this in advance, so we can't really complain about it. It seems to us that with relatively modest investments -- a good cleaner between visits, some new kitchenware, a few repairs -- the cottage could be far more enjoyable than it is now. In its current state, we find it hard to recommend.
