Wayside is a tranquil terraced holiday home located in one of the most picturesque areas of Dorset, just a few miles from Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door. Wayside was refurbished in 2018 and offers a romantic escape in the Dorset countryside. It’s such a peaceful area with no traffic and just the local wildlife for company. There are plenty of country walks that can be taken straight from the property. Leave the car behind and walk across fields and up and over to the UNESCO Jurassic World Heritage Coastline, which is just 4 miles away and home to over 300 coastal country walks, offering some breathtaking views over Dorset’s 200 million year old shoreline. It’s a perfect place to bring your four-legged friends with you, so they too can enjoy all that this area has to offer, and there is an outdoor tap available to hose down your bike or dog after your adventures. It is ideal for couples wanting to explore the beautiful surrounding areas of Dorset.
Winfrith Newburgh is located 8 miles west of Wareham and 10 miles east of the county town of Dorchester. It is home to an award-winning local post office, which is within walking distance from the property and offers local Dorset delights. Dorset’s county town, known as Thomas Hardy’s town, Dorchester, is home to Roman relics, Brewery Square and the pioneering architectural royal development of Poundbury. Weymouth boasts a golden sandy beach, picturesque harbour and is ideally positioned along the UNESCO World Heritage Jurassic coastline. Take a trip to the Isle of Portland, host to the sailing at the 2012 Olympic Games and home to the world-famous National Sailing Academy.
Chocolate-box villages can be admired in many areas of Dorset. Abbotsbury Swannery provides the opportunity to observe the resident colony of mute swans, which has been in existence since the 14th century. From late May, visitors can walk around the nesting area, observing the cygnets at close quarters. Another attraction at Abbotsbury are the sub-tropical gardens, which flourish in a site protected from the cold winds. Here you can find species rare to Britain such as Japanese camellias and Caucasian wingnut. It is a great location with so many popular tourist attractions close by including Monkey World, Bovington Tank Museum, Milton Abbey, Athelhampton House and the National Trust’s Corfe Castle, all of which all make great family days out.
Slightly further afield, you can visit Swanage, Poole and Poole Quay. Poole harbour is the second largest natural harbour in the world and from here you can take the ferry to Sandbanks or Brownsea Island Nature Reserve with its red squirrels. Why not take the ferry for the day to visit the Channel Islands of Guernsey and Jersey? Lyme Regis is also another hot spot to visit, known locally as the ‘Pearl of Dorset’, and is a great place for searching for fossils found in the cliffs and along the beach. Also, if you love golf, Dorset’s Came Down Golf Course is just 9 miles away and where the Ryder Cup was born. Beach 4 miles. Shop and pub 500 yards, restaurant 700 yards.

A beautiful cottage in a beautiful location. We went for a relaxing weekend with lots of walks with the dogs and it is perfect for that. Hardly saw a soul and never drove the car. Wonderful.

A fantastic property, ideal for a couple. Plenty of room for two. The sitting room was comfortable and we loved the open fire. Bedroom was glorious, very romantic and the bed extremely comfortable. Kitchen and bathroom were well equipped with everything you'd need. The checking in process was efficient and although we didn't meet the owners they were very helpful and answered our questions promptly. Local pub about 10 mins walk away was ideal for evening meals.

My wife & I stayed with our 2 dogs at Wayside for a short holiday weekend. We loved it! Wayside has been very nicely renovated and was well stocked with all the essentials. The location is fabulous - a short drive or long footpath walk to get to the Jurassic Coast attractions, but the town of Winfrith Newburgh itself is a peaceful, quiet retreat from the crowds at the coast. A Red Lion pub is a short walk from the house. We would definitely come back and highly recommend for others.
