Set just 200 yards from the beach and close to many attractions, this really is an idyllic seaside retreat.

This well-appointed, traditional terrace cottage is located in a quiet lane in the heart of Newquay and only a short stroll to the town, beaches and traditional working harbour, where sea fishing and pleasure trips can be taken. Newquay has plenty of local shops and cafés. Fistral Beach, the home to British surfing, is a short stroll away. Here, you can arrange lessons and hire equipment at one of the many surf schools. For those who would rather sit back and watch there are many beachside cafes to choose from where you can enjoy the views. Newquay also has stunning tropical gardens, a Sea Life centre, zoo, links golf course, horse racing, bicycle hire, sea trips for fishing and a leisure centre. It is perfectly surrounded by many tourist attractions for all ages including go karting, Crealy Adventure Park, Dairyland, a Japanese garden and Trerice Manor (National Trust). The whole coastline is dotted with beaches (Newquay has 7, one for each day!) and fishing villages from St Agnes in the south to Padstow in the north with its fine dining and many excellent restaurants, including those of the TV chef Rick Stein. At Watergate Bay, 2 miles from Newquay, you can eat at one of Jamie Oliver’s restaurants ‘Fifteen Cornwall’ and then take advantage of the wide beach which is home to the British kite surfing centre with excellent surfing, or enjoy beautiful walks at sunset. Truro, Fowey, the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan are all easily reached from this perfectly positioned cottage. Beach 200 yards. Shop 100 yards, pub and restaurant 40 yards.

Waves cottage is a nice enough cottage but is greatly let down by its severe lack of parking. We ended up wasting lots of time and over £40 on parking. The cottage also had issues with both water temperature and pressure. Also the heating was left on extremely high. Newquay as a whole offered a very bad experience to us. The place is overly expensive with no justification to be. £3 for cup of tea. Really! This place is nothing more than a down trodden seaside suburb which was probably once nice. But now there seems to be an influx of poor and deprived people littering the busy streets. Also much of the surrounding architecture is disheveled to say the least, and even places like Rick Steins Restaurant look to be crumbling and in need of a major paint job. My advice to people looking to stay in Newquay is don't!

A very good value off-season week in Newquay, with lots of great coastal walks out from the cottage plus good pubs and shops and restaurants all within walking distance too.

During my stay I was unable to have a bath or a shower. Having contacted the owner he instructed me to run the hot tap at less of a flow. This did provide hot water but because the pressure is so low it is not enough pressure for the water to pump through the shower and it will take an eternity to fill a bath with water. The pressure is alight with taps in the kitchen and bathroom sink so a stand up wash can be had. Despite the owner living outside the UK he was very helpful. The Caretaker was always contactable and very helpful. It is a shame about this problem as the cottage is in an excellent location for the beaches, Sainsbury's and the cinema. You can load and unload in a small parking area in front of the cottage but as it is parking for other residents you will have to move your car afterwards as clamping is in place. Parking will be a bit of a bind in peak season. There is some off road residential parking but this is closely guarded by the residents and there is hardly ever a space. The Belmont Long Stay Car Park in Toby Way, just 5 mins walk away by the Golf club £6.80 for 24 hours.

Great location for Newquay beaches and for visiting other places on the Atlantic Coast. Cottage warm and welcoming, although the instructions for actually finding it in the first place could be better. Very clean except for the oven, which could badly use a thorough deep clean. We only used it once and it completely smoked out the cottage to the extent that we discovered that the previous occupants had disconnected the smoke alarm downstairs! Probably for that reason, but nevertheless, smoke alarms should be checked whenever you stay somewhere - don't assume they are connected! Very close to Sainsburys so handy for shopping especially as you cannot park anywhere near the cottage to unload. Must be a nightmare in the summer. No dishwasher either which is a pain when you are on holiday, and there is room for one in the kitchen so maybe this could be added at a later date. Finally, maybe the cottage could do with a lick of paint and a touch of modernising in the very near future to bring it up to scratch to what most people are used to these days.
