Pleasant cottage about 10 minutes drive from the beautiful town of Bury St Edmunds. Good location for touring West Suffolk and Cambridgeshire. Little available in walking distance so a car is essential. Although there are two bedrooms we found it just the right size for the two of us. Mobile telephone signal was only obtained for us by going outside and Wi-Fi signal was weak. Pleasant garden belonging to the owners was available also to tenants.

The kitchen was appalling in its size. It could have been at least a foot bigger and the bathroom in the second bedroom reduced in size to accommodate this. There was hardly any work space and very few utensils to cook with considering the cottage is self catering, it should have provided more to cook with.

Just returned from an excellent week's holiday at Walnut Cottage. Well placed for visiting many Suffolk places of interest. The host Nigel was very friendly and obliging. Very quiet and relaxing cottage.

We booked Walnut Cottage for a 4 night stay but wish we could have stayed longer. Walnut Cottage is beautifully decorated and well equipped. Victoria had left us milk and cookies, which was kind of her, plus a vase of Sweet Williams on the lounge table. The 2 bedrooms are both en suite, one with shower and one with a bath. The beds were very comfortable. The laundry room is located in the summer house, within the spacious garden. We enjoyed sitting in the small porch at the cottage, enjoying a drink and listening to bird song. A quiet and peaceful location which we would highly recommend.

It was quite small and not very clean, the top of the bathroom cabinet was covered in dust and dead insects. The kitchen was very small and cold all the time, there was no heating in the kitchen. The WIFI was very slow at times. Thankfully we were only there to sleep and eat a few meals. The day we arrived we spent an hour cleaning the worktop in the kitchen and other surfaces before we felt they were clean. The cold taps in the bath and one basin had particles of dirt coming out of them for a few days. The place smelled of damp when ever we returned. There were no windows in the twin room that could be opened.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; Given the location of Walnut and Hazelnut Cottages we consider our guests as extended visitors to our home and I am therefore saddened by your comments. The cottage had had a thorough pre season deep clean two weeks prior to your visit and I personally inspected, and gave the finishing touches to the cottage just before your arrival. I felt our high standards had been maintained and the cottage was clean and welcoming. There is heating in the kitchen, located in the under cupboard skirting, simply activated by turning on the switch. WIFI in our area is sometimes slow and occasionally our WIFI trips and we have to reboot from the house, but being on hand, this is easily resolved. The cottages have been closed through the winter and I suspect this would explain the particle disturbance you experienced in the taps for which I apologise. In future we will run the taps for a longer period when reopening. There are dormer windows in both bathrooms and a French door with a safety chain in the bedroom which can all be opened to air the property and we have never before encountered any damp smells. Our guests' enjoyment of their stay in Suffolk is of paramount importance to us and we try to make visits as comfortable as possible, I am sorry therefore that your visit did not meet expectations.
