This delightful, detached holiday house has a private swimming pool and is set in an elevated position within a pretty enclosed garden

This delightful, detached holiday house has a private swimming pool and is set in an elevated position within a pretty enclosed garden. It is situated on the edge of a quiet village within easy driving distance of all the Dordognes’ main tourist attractions, including many châteaux and caves, and most importantly the wine growing regions of Bergerac and Bordeaux. The comfortable interior has been decorated and furnished to a very good standard. The poolside is well furnished, with comfortable sun loungers and a covered terrace for outdoor dining. A vine covered south facing terrace is accessed directly from the kitchen and living room, providing a shady spot for dining al fresco. The reinactment of the battle of the Hundred Years War takes place in the summer at Castillon-La-Bataille 14km. The famous wine producing area of St Emilion is just 25km. Historic Bergerac with its’s famous appelations of Monbazillac and Pecharment wines is within easy reach.

Approximate distance to Bergerac airport is 5 km.

Living/dining room. Kitchen. Four bedrooms: Three double, one twin (for children). Bathroom/WC with over-bath shower. Shower room (no WC). Separate WC

You won't want to publish this but here is our honest feedback. The villa is clean and well-equipped and Mary is vey helpful. But we found 3 major drawbacks: 1. The pool was far too cold to swim in. I realise we stayed in early September and the pool is unheated but the pool was cold simply because no insulated cover is used to keep the heat in. A friend stayed in a villa with an unheated pool near Bergerac 3 weeks earlier and the pool was warm because a cover is used every night. 2. There is a problem with the drains, which the owners are aware of and which creates a stink outside the house that can be smelled slightly inside. 3. The garden itself is exactly as shown on the photos but there is a lot of road and railway noise; plus on Saturday and Sunday motorcross riders made a racket on a track nearby. Nothing to do with the villa but it rained almost constantly during our holiday and we soon got fed up with visiting sights wearing cagoules. Given the comments above we decided that we'd be more comfortable at home, so we packed up and left 2 days early.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; I am sorry you were disappointed with your stay. The pool and terrace have only just been completely refitted and refurbished and there is an insulated cover available for guests to use. We can only apologise that it was not on the pool when you arrived and will make sure that this does not happen in the future. There is not actually a problem with the drains - our side of the village had just had mains water drains installed and we took the opportunity to connect to these instead of remaining with a septic tank - the 'odour' problem was temporary. I am sorry if you found there was road and railway noise - the house is situated on a hill looking down on to the valley with a road and a railway line. It is a local railway line with the slow train that takes commuters and tourists to Bergerac, St Emilion and Bordeaux and many guests like the convenience of being able to visit these places on the local train.

The kitchen was disappointingly small with absolutely no food storage space. Cheap quality cutlery. Master bedroom on the first floor not really suitable as sharing bathroom with two other bedrooms. Ground floor bedroom more suitable as a master bedroom as the bathroom and toilet can at least be separated off from the rest of the living space to effectively make an en-suite. Good location for tennis though; there is a private tennis club adjacent o the village College but we had to track down the keys from the Mairie whose staff were extremely helpful. Information about this should be included in the proprty iformation pack.

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your comments. We were also disappointed with the cutlery we had purchased in France and have now substituted it with new up to date stainless steel cutlery from John Lewis. You must have missed the double door storage cupboard for food to the right of the sink. We also have the large utility room which has storage cupboards and two fridges - one in the kitchen and a larger fridge freezer in the utility room. We know guests have appreciated two good sized fridges for storage as well.
