Description

Boasting a superb central location, this townhouse is close to all of Whitby’s attractions, including Whitby Abbey and the golden sandy beach.

Victoria Square is a wonderful terraced townhouse in the centre of the bustling fishing town of Whitby. The kitchen has a large range cooker, granite work tops, quality wood fronted units and a bespoke seating and dining area. All the rooms are of very generous proportions and still retain many of the period features. The summerhouse and terrace at the rear are a lovely sun trap, perfect for relaxing after a day exploring. Located in the centre, you are only a stone’s throw away from all the amenities that Whitby has to offer.

Whitby is increasingly popular with holiday makers all year round as it has something to offer all the family, including 3 miles of golden beach, donkey rides and ice creams. Other things to do include rock pooling, climbing the 199 steps to Gothic Whitby Abbey, made famous by Bram Stoker’s Dracula, or taking a stroll along the cobbled streets and taking in some of the older parts of town with its Jet Stone boutiques. Whitby has an up and coming foody scene too, with everything from Michelin star restaurants to award winning fish and chips, tea rooms and family friendly pubs and bars, many offering live entertainment. There is also the golf course and many boats offering tourist trips out to sea in search of seals, dolphins and even whales in the right season.

The Yorkshire Heritage Coast is dotted with hidden gems such as Staithes and Runswick Bay to the north, and Robin Hood’s Bay to the south. Robin Hood’s Bay can be reached along the Cinder Track walk and cycle way, and the Cleveland Way also makes its way along the tops of cliffs and into the some of the bays, offering some superb photo opportunities along its path. Take a steam train ride from Whitby right into Heartbeat Country and Goathland.

The North York Moors National Park is right on your doorstep, with its 100’s of walking routes which take in the Falling Foss Waterfall and The Moors National Park Centre. Find out about the people, places and wildlife of the North York Moors with the interactive exhibits and take a look at the acclaimed ’Inspired by...gallery’, with its changing exhibitions of work by accomplished artists. For children, there is an outdoor adventure play area and indoor climbing wall, children’s trails and a lively events programme. There are pushchair and wheelchair friendly woodland and riverside trails around the grounds, and plenty of picnic areas and seating if you just want to sit back and soak up the fantastic views across the Esk Valley.

The traditional seaside town of Scarborough is just down the coast with its water park, SeaLife Centre and two long sandy bays, whilst the medieval walled town of York is also within driving distance, with its Jorvik Viking Centre and the National Railway Museum. Beach ½ mile. Shop and pub 100 yards, restaurant 50 yards.

Cottage was very central. However, because of its location noise was at a high level due to pubs/clubs/people and seagulls! Off-street parking means it is necessary to park in long-stay car park at a cost of £9 per day or £8 if bought in a block eg. a 6 day permit costs £48 although it does allow parking in Scarborough, Filey, and Robin Hoods Bay.

Although the cottage is very comfortable, and very close to the amenities I wouldn’t opt to stay here again the cottage is very near the main road and a busy pub, the windows are single glazed and the noise on a night time is very notable. There was building work on the adjacent building next door which resulted in us having to cut our stay by two days I would be wary of the upstairs bathroom there is a deep drop surly there should be a step down as my mother fell

A lovely house, beautifully furnished. The markings below 10 were largely due to the lack of some basics i.e. Very pleasing to have bottle of Prosecco in the welcome pack, but there were no Prosecco glasses. Christmas meal difficult due to lack of serving dishes, gravy jug - had to go out to buy them. No visitor book with essential info - no info re refuse disposal. Please don't take these comments as complaints, overall our stay was excellent, with these points addressed, the assessment would be superb.
