Situated in a tranquil hamlet just 6 miles from the coast, the cottages have been converted from barns dating back to 1824 and retain many original features. They are set in an enclosed courtyard garden, each with its own barbecue area.

The fishing port of Looe can also be reached by taking the scenic train journey from Liskeard (2 miles). The maritime city of Plymouth is only a 30 minutes’ drive away with the National Marine Aquarium and its historic Barbican district. The fantastic Eden Project (10 miles), Cotehele and the Lost Gardens of Heligan are amongst the many wonderful Cornish gardens and historic houses which are within easy reach of Tregrill. The Rame Peninsula, known as Cornwall’s Forgotten Corner, is close by with picturesque villages and quiet beaches and Whitsand Bay which is popular with surfers is only 8 miles away. Watersports such as windsurfing, canoeing and fishing can also be enjoyed at Siblyback Lake (5 miles); Adrenalin Quarry and Karting are less than a mile away. For indoor activities the cottages share the use of a games room with an antique snooker table (for over 16s only), table tennis, darts board and hi-fi. Shop and pub ½ mile.

We really enjoyed our week staying at the at the Tregrill Farm Cottages. The Moderno barn conversion is spacious, comfortable and well-equipped. Tucked out of the way of main roads, we had plenty of peace and quiet. There are lots of places to visit within an hour’s drive of Menheniot. We were lucky with the weather and had some great days out. We would definitely recommend.

Stayed with my elderly mum in March the week after severe snow had cut off the area. Had to go a day late due to the village being inaccessible the Saturday but the owners offered us the option of staying a day longer, though we could not take it up due to a long drive back and work. Cottage is very spacious esp for 2 of us! It was nice and warm with the central heating and though we did light the wood stove a couple of nights it was more for pleasure. Bed in double room was extremely comfortable and as I have spinal problems this was such a plus. I took note of the make of mattress and am going to look at one for my Home bed! The only thing we would have liked was a bigger television with a better sound. Being a very large and echoing room the TV is really too small and the sound disappears and echos so is not clear, esp for my elderly mum with a hearing aid. Even on full volume we found it very difficult to watch a film. This is not a problem in the summer when you don’t watch the Tv but we had a wet, chilly week!

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thanks for your review; we’re glad you enjoyed your stay despite it beginning with the first major snowfall in Cornwall for ten years. We’re sorry the TV didn’t meet your expectations and needs, all our TV’s have been purchased in the last five years but we will certainly take a look at the one in Moderno to see if it is unsuitable for the space. Thank you for bringing it to our attention.

On arriving we felt perhaps the first impression ie the bedrooms were a little gloomy and perhaps colourless. Once we had lights on etc it seemed nice but still lacked some colourful. The Lounge/Kitchen was superb and everywhere was very warm and cosy considering it was chilly outside.

Response on behalf of the owner:- Thank you for your positive comments. We're glad you enjoyed your stay in Moderno. We will certainly look into the first impression of the bedrooms as you suggest. Moderno is painted white throughout in keeping with the modern, seaside feel of the cottage, colour is added through accents in the carpet, tiling, cushions, throws, sofas and cushions.

We had a lovely week here in August. It was a very novel cottage being upside down. The layout was great. The only downside was that it could of been a bit cleaner, there was quite a few cobwebs and a few bits of crockery had to be washed before we could use it, saying that though it was a lovely place to stay and would def like to again in the future. It was a bit far away from a lot of the big attractions but there a loads of lovely places nearby....esp Looe and Polperro.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your positive comments. We do wish you had mentioned to us that there were a lot of cobwebs as we would have immediately offered another clean for you. Again crockery is usually left clean by previous guests and the Crocker is usually checked through at changeover, something must have missed the check of this for which we apologise. Our housekeepers are usually meticulous in this respect so we do apologise that these things were missed on this occasion. We can only encourage our guests to report problems to us so that we can resolve any issues straight away.
