Description

Tucked away, this former gamekeeper’s lodge is a good base for enjoying outdoor activities or touring the Moray coast.

Enjoying wonderful panoramic views over surrounding farmland and on towards the waters of the inner Moray Firth, this interesting detached holiday property (adjacent to another holiday property) has been equipped and furnished to a very good standard to ensure as comfortable and relaxing holiday as possible. The house dates from the 1860s and was originally a gamekeeper’s lodge to the Rosehaugh Estate and architectural features include whitewashed walls with exposed sandstone surrounds and crow-stepped gables, typical of Scots Baronial style. Tourie Lum, which means ‘towering chimney’ in Old Scots, is accessed by a single track and is located on the edge of the Black Isle fishing village of Avoch, overlooking the site of the historic Ormond Castle which is believed to have been a stronghold of William the Lion, King of the Scots from 1165 to 1214. The Black Isle makes a perfect base for exploring the many delights of the Northern Highlands. Visit the lovely villages along the Moray Coast or take a distillery tour along the Moray Whisky Trail. Inverness, the Highland capital, Loch Ness and Culloden Battlefield are just a short drive with the stunning west coast being an easy day out. The many activities available in the area include golf, mountain biking, water sports and boat trips, fishing, quad biking, walking and climbing to name just a few. For the less energetic, sit back, relax and watch the ever-changing scenery. Shop and pub 11/2 mile.

The house was a bit chilly during the Christmas week and the veranda hardly bearable at breakfast time. Fortunately there is a fireplace in the living room which makes the room quite warm and cosy. Nice walks and pubs around.

Tourie Lum is a beautiful cottage in a stunning location with great walks & friendly people. The downside is the property needs some money reinvesting in it now, it would probably only take two weeks of the cost. Black Mould around the bath can be removed with even Cillit Bang Spray & having electrical tape over the holes on the shower looks awful & you can get a new one from under £10. Like others have said the windows have blown so can’t enjoy the view & clearly haven’t bn cleaned as people have left messages in the condensation. My father & I have had open fires/stoves all our lives & the one in the cottage is a hazard & until fixed shouldn’t be used. There is no fire cement around the flue nor fireboarding so not even in use fibreglass insulation and a bucket full of debris came down. These small changes would make a whole lot of difference as would make it near perfect.

Great cottage and location however if sharing with 5 other adults another bathroom would be beneficial. The cottage is a home from home and has everything you need for your holiday. The views are outstanding and to improve this and use of spotting scope, the large window in the conservatory would benefit from being revealed as it is continually has condensation. Unfortunately this holiday the wood burner was not functional which was disappointing. Apart from that we had an excellent holiday and will return.

Great cottage. Steep access road but the views were worth it. Bed a little hard for me but husband said he was ok. Huge bath and underfloor heating in bathroom was great. Massive conservatory.

The house is delightful - comfortable, well equipped and enjoying stunning views. It is in ideal location to explore much of Northern Scotland. We would happily visit again.

We had a brilliant week at Tourie Lum. The cottage was excellent, furnished to a high standard with all the accessories you could wish for plus the views from the cottage are beautiful. We saw plenty of dolphins at Chanonary Point only 10 minutes away and the cottage is in a good location for day trips to the highlands.
