It’s a gentle stroll to a fine selection of pubs and restaurants, perfectly located to leave the car behind and enjoy a real ale in one of the friendly local inns. With plenty of cafes and a few bespoke shops, it’s a wonderful little town to relax whilst being central to all the top tourist spots in this super friendly county. You can enjoy a gentle stroll along the river with several pathways that lead into the town centre or skip over the stepping stones. Lots of visitors love to walk in the Simonside Hills perfect for ramblers.

Cragside House, a National Trust favourite, is in walking distance, the first home in England to be powered by hydro-electricity with wonderful gardens in the spring and summer. Nearby Alnwick Castle is only a 30-minute drive and home to the Duke of Northumberland. The castle is famed for the Harry Potter scenes; try a broomstick flying lesson, a must for Harry Potter fans! The castle also featured in Downton Abbey and Braveheart. Whilst in Northumberland, a day trip along the stunning heritage coast is a must, with miles of golden beaches and historic sites and castles. Nearby Harbottle village is set in the National Park with some stunning walks and a very friendly village pub to stop off for an hour. The market town of Rothbury isn’t too far, here you will find an Edwardian Shopping Arcade and some lovely bars and restaurants as well as he Morpeth Chantry packed with local arts and crafts and home of the tourist information centre.
