This charming, detached, Grade II listed toll house is situated on the edge of the oldest part of the town of Berwick-upon-Tweed, beyond the remains of the ancient walls. All on the ground floor with lots of light and comfortably furnished throughout it’s an ideal retreat for couples keen to enjoy a car free holiday being just 5 minutes walk to the railway station. Great for exploring the glorious beaches and fishing villages of the Northumbrian coast; Alnwick and Bamburgh castles are in easy reach as are the great houses of the Scottish Borders, Paxton, Floors and Mellerstain. Berwick has a wide array of shops, pubs, restaurants and an excellent theatre at The Maltings. Edinburgh is under an hour by train. Beach 2 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 220 yards.

Brilliant stay even though we went in Jan which is out of season.

Great cottage in a great location; the traffic noise soon blends into the background. Wifi would have been nice but not essential. Ability to recycle is a must in my opinion.

Just so well equipped and friendly and easy for everywhere: sea, Tweed river path (stunning), town and history, shops all just minutes away. We (I and two Border Terriers) had a fabulously memorable time made possible by this house and its very welcoming owner.

We had a very enjoyable in this characterful Cottage. We assumed there would be wifi even though it wasn't mentioned on booking. It would have helped us research activities in the surrounding area and we wanted a quiet break to catch up with things.

Excellent little cottage. Just a pity it has no garden to sit in. Wi-fi would be a good addition here. Cottage owner very nice and there are plenty of little extras included. Clean and comfortable. Despite being located between two main roads and near the train station we heard very little noise. We would definitely recommend this cottage as a good base to visit the Border areas.

We cannot find fault with the Toll House and we would recommend a stay. Berwick town is a non event but the beaches are definitely worth a visit. The location of the Toll House on a busy junction is noisy and if it’s quiet you are seeking this is not the place. The interior is fabulous and exceptionally clean and well equipped.

This little cottage is a gem. I wished we lived nearer so we could visit more often. It is the best equipped cottage I have ever stayed in. Susan has tried to think of everything and it's close to the walks in Berwick and to the railway station.
