Description

Spend an unforgettable holiday on the stunning Isle of Skye at this architect-designed property, which has loch and mountain views.

Tigh Fraoich is set within the rural crofting township of Carbost Beg and offers views over Loch Harport and the Cuillin mountain range. This peaceful and tranquil place offers a true ‘get away from it all experience’, whether you plan to explore the area or just enjoy the comfort of Tigh Fraoich, which is detached, stylishly furnished and equipped to offer every comfort.
Both Talisker Distillery, Skye’s oldest whisky distillery, and Carbost Inn (which has regular live music) are only a short distance from Tigh Fraoich. The Minginish Peninsula has much to offer and there is superb walking for all abilities, as well as the Cullin for experienced climbers. Of interest, too, are Talisker Bay, Glenbrittle Beach and the Fairy Pools. Various craft shops and art galleries offer good browsing for visitors, but it is the scenery and the changing light that makes this area so dramatic.
On the west of the island, a trip to Dunvegan Castle, the Coral Beaches, Neist Point Lighthouse or the beautiful Waternish Peninsula are all recommended. Portree, the bustling main town, is where you can take a stroll down to the harbour and watch the fishing vessels unload their catch of the day. Take a sea trip from Portree to see the varied sea and bird life and also enjoy the beauty of the rugged coastline. To the north of Portree is the Trotternish Peninsula which boasts some of Skye’s most stunning scenery. To the south of the island is Broadford, with the southern tip called ‘The Garden of Skye’. Here you can visit the ruins of Armadale Castle and its lovely gardens. Skye has so much to offer in the way of outdoor pursuits including kayaking, pony trekking, boat trips and fishing/angling, so come and enjoy. Beach 5 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

Fabulous cottage, just like the pictures on the website. Situated above the village of Carbost, (and the Talisker Distillery) it has wonderful views to the head of the Loch and the mountains in the background. Kitchen is modern and all the appliances are top quality, only thing missing was a cheese grater and measuring jug but everything else to allow full self catering was catered for. Beds were very comfortable and the showers super. We had my 84 year old mother with us and I was a little concerned about the curved stairs but they were much wider than they appear in the picture and were no bother at all. This is a wonderful cottage and deserves its 5* rating.

The perfect holiday cottage. One really couldn't ask for any more from a holiday home; Tigh Fraoich has absolutely everything. High quality finishes throughout and lovely touches such as Skye soaps and exterior lighting. Would definitely recommend to anyone spending time on the island. We also found the local amenities to be as good as anywhere else on Skye (barring Portree which is the only town). In addition, cottage management were easily approachable and flexible to make our stay very smooth.

This is without question the best holiday cottage I have ever stayed in. It’s beautifully decorated, well equipped and very comfortable. It’s also in a beautiful situation. I’m scoring it 6 for local amenities because it’s a 45 minute drive from the nearest large supermarket but apart from that there’s a pub within walking distance, a post office, a small (expensive) shop and a distillery. Special mention has to be made of the Oyster Shed which is five minutes walk away. Oysters, lobster, squat lobsters and other sea food cooked to order to eat in or take away plus a wide selection of other high end grub.
