Description

Relax and enjoy this peaceful setting, or venture out and explore the stunning Yorkshire countryside, with the Calderdale Way close by.

In the heart of the beautiful Yorkshire countryside, this stone built, single-storey, detached cottage is located in the grounds of the owner’s 17th-century farmhouse guest house. It lies in a peaceful setting, in-between both the Yorkshire Dales and Peak District National Parks. Enjoy outstanding views from the property, and with the Calderdale Way and Pennine Way close by, there is ample walking available. To make your stay that bit more special, guests have sole use of a patio with garden furniture, and the welcoming owner can provide wonderful extras by prior arrangement, ranging from a hearty breakfast, homemade bread, marmalades and jams, to an in-house beauty and holistic treatment (these can either be offered in the privacy of the property, or at the owner’s guest house). With a history in bed manufacturing, you can look forward to a comfortable nights sleep.

Ripponden itself is a village close to the market town of Sowerby Bridge, in West Yorkshire. There are many attractions within easy reach including the Royal Armouries Museum, Brontë Parsonage Museum, National Media Museum and the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway, which can all be reached within 40 minutes’. Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Cannon Hall Museum and the fabulous Harewood House are an hour away. We had a lovely stay - very peaceful setting and we needed to chill! We were allowed to take our 3 Dandie Dinmont Terriers who loved it as we were able to let them run free in an enclosed area - ideal! Very clean and lots of little extras were awaiting us - including fresh eggs and home made biscuits - delicious :O) Lovely friendly hosts.

Had a very enjoyable stay, very relaxing. Judith and David were very friendly and accommodating. Very nice treatments from Rowena. Surrounding countryside beautiful and there was a field attached to walk our dog. Garden was beautiful but not secure and a lead was necessary. Cottage very nice and had everything we needed for our stay. Nice walk to the Alma Inn which was dog friendly. Would definitely recommend.

Superb studio cottage set in peaceful surroundings and great views. Good size living area with kitchen and bathroom off to the side. Good cooker/hob and fridge with ice draw. Hot water only on a few hours per day (immersion tank). We coped but if you wanted to shower more than once per day you might struggle. Co-op and Tesco both short drives away. Local pub The Alma Inn has very good food and drink plus very welcoming, even with dogs!! All in all would come back, loved our Easter stay, just what we needed!!

A spacious cottage, cosy and traditional, it was very tidy but very dirty, I spent a whole morning cleaning, kitchen worktops were filthy as were cupboard fronts tiles, and the kitchen floor, the bathroom was no better shower, toilet and floor was dirty, and also had dog hairs, skirting boards dirty, will be a lot cleaner for next guests because I’ve done it,

Response on behalf of the owner; Thank you for your feedback and positive comments, and I'm sorry you felt our cottage was not up to your cleanliness standards. As you can see from our other guest feedback no one else has mentioned a similar complaint, and I wish you had bought the issue to our attention whilst staying, so that we could have been given the opportunity to rectify this.

The only ‘gripe’ I had about this beautiful, clean and well equipped cottage was the hot water; The water is heated for only two hours in the morning which means after a long journey to get there (we didn’t check in until nearly 8pm after a 5 hour drive) there was no hot water for a shower before bed or going out for a drink. Other than that it was perfect! Lovely settings, lovely host and very welcoming. The home made cakes, biscuits and fresh free/range eggs upon arrival were a nice personal touch. The cottage was very clean and very well equipped and tastefully decorated in keeping with the old stone building. Even though the hosts welcome dogs at the cottage, we did not see a single sign that any dogs had ever been in the cottage. Would highly recommend if you want a base to explore the surrounding areas or if you just want somewhere peaceful to sit and read all day and get away from it all!
