This property is part of our English Country Cottages collection

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above.

Situated on the North Yorkshire coast, this wonderful property offers enough room for all the family and is perfect for nature lovers.

This beautiful, semi-detached stone cottage has been thoughtfully furnished with a well-equipped kitchen and dining area in the open plan living space with a full Sky TV package. Situated right on the seafront in the sought after seaside village of Sandsend, Thole Cottage benefits from amazing sea views from all front facing rooms and lovely outdoor areas to the front and the rear of the property.
Sandsend is a quaint picturesque village on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, offering miles of award-winning sandy beaches, streams and rock pools. Steeped in history, the remains of the old alum works and the coastal railway are still there to be seen. There are some wonderful restaurants in the village including an award-winning restaurant, a bistro, a pub serving food and three beachside cafés. There are also many walks close by, with some forming part of the Cleveland Way. Take a walk along the Cleveland Way, which runs along the top of the bay and offers fabulous views of the dramatic Yorkshire Heritage Coast. The coastline from Saltburn-by-the-Sea to Filey, is a place of rugged beauty, with many isolated fishing villages such as Staithes and Robin Hoods Bay.
Situated just 2 miles from the town of Whitby, with its year round events and festivals such as the Goth Weekend and the Steampunk Weekend. Famous for its link to Dracula, the abbey and its award winning fish and chips, Whitby has something for everyone. The North York Moors is the smallest of the National Parks, and is home to beautiful moors and woodland, ideal for walkers, and also holds many amazing old buildings from abbeys to castles. For nature lovers, why not take a trip to Saltholme Nature Reserve, North Gare beach at Seaton Carew, or visit Seal Sands, with a chance to see harbour and grey seals bask beside the tidal channels.
For something different you can take a steam train journey into ‘Heartbeat’ country and Goathland, or head out to sea on a boat trip, where you may see seals and dolphins. The traditional seaside resort of Scarborough is just 20 miles down the coast and has plenty on offer, from its ancient castle to the Sealife Centre and its two wonderful beaches.

This is a superb holiday rental. We have stayed here twice now and thoroughly enjoyed the property and the location. It is very convenient for the local bus service to Whitby or even Middlesborough . There are some very good restaurants and a pub close by that serves good food although the drinks are quite expensive! The house is very well equipped to a high standard with a comfortable lounge area that is very cosy.

Excellent location and good for all ages as my daughter and 6 year old granddaughter joined us for the first three nights and when they left my brother and his wife and my mum stayed for a couple of nights. The property was modern and very comfortable and we would definitely stay again.

A lovely well situated cottage a stone's throw from the beach. Very modern and we'll equipped. We only needed to buy food, toiletries and bin liners - everything else was already there. The main bedroom is lovely while the others can feel a tad small if you're used to larger rooms as we are at home. We struggled a bit in our ensuite with having enough room to dry but otherwise the cottage is well designed. Our only real issue came from the mattress in our room being too soft and the double bed a little smaller than we're used to, meaning we were falling out of bed/getting in eachother's way a bit! That coupled with the noise of the waves crashing & the wind meant a few restless night's sleep but obviously part of that is to be expected staying so close to the sea! Would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone wanting a seaside break. It takes about an hour to walk into Whitby where there are lots more restaurants as we struggled to find many options in Sandsend itself.

This contemporary cottage is in a wonderful location overlooking the long sandy beach of Sandsend. The cottage is clean, comfortable and cosy and has been furnished and equipped to a very high standard with great attention to detail. There is a gas-fired coal/wood-effect stove in the lounge which would make it very cosy in the colder months. The only downside, if you could call it that, is that the actual sitting area is quite small. However, the ground floor is open-plan with a dining room and large kitchen and there is comfortable lounge seating for 6 people. Our party of 4 adults did not find the size a problem. There is a pub serving good food a five minute walk away and various other restaurants and bistros in the village although we did not try these as we felt they were quite expensive. Just opposite the cottage there is a very good cafe with fantastic views of the beach. They serve delicious coffee, cakes, sandwiches, etc and also do a full English breakfast if you can't be bothered preparing your own. Thole Cottage is ideally situated for exploring Whitby and the rest of this picturesque coast, as well as the North Yorkshire moors. We would love to return in the very near future and would recommend this property.
