With a Visit England Gold Award, guests can experience country living from this magnificent property, set in a great location to explore the countryside and coast.

The West Wing boasts an Visit England Gold Award.
It’s not every day you get the chance to holiday in a stately home, least of all in one as enchanting and atmospheric as The West Wing of Capheaton Hall.

Set within sumptuous landscaped grounds comprising woodland, kitchen garden, a lake and wide open grassland, the owners have breathed new life into this Grade I listed historical treasure, which has been home to the Swinburne family since the 13th century. After careful restoration, The West Wing offers sublime accommodation in the heart of Northumberland, giving visitors a feel for fine country life to the utmost degree.

Kilim rugs, intricate Turkish bedspreads, complementary colours and tones blend beautifully together throughout the house, and there’s an eclectic mix of antiques and artwork adorning the walls. After deep, sweet slumber on utterly divine beds, your dream continues downstairs, with a light breakfast of sunny-side-up eggs on toast and fresh orange juice in the kitchen/diner. Slick, bright and contemporary in design, the room is a very relaxed social space in which to begin the day, whilst the dining room makes for a classy setting to enjoy Sunday lunches and evening meals.

With large draped windows bringing the landscape outside indoors, the living room boasts a more formal affair, sympathetic to the heritage of the house. Giant bookcases, period paintings, high ceilings with ornate coving and the original feature fireplace all come together to make the living room so special. It’s fitting for landed gentry, yet with an intimate, homely ambience, spending time with the family here is truly unforgettable. Bring some board games, have a laugh with a game of charades, or simply sit back with your dearly beloved and a good book in hand.

The park area makes for fine cycling and horse riding country, and there’s a well-stocked lake, on-site tennis courts and a private terrace overlooking a pretty pond lined with lilies and irises. If you fancy a rest from cooking, meal delivery is available by arrangement with the owner, or better yet, there’s a private chef for celebrating special occasions.

This elegant country house with its own private parking and entrance stands as testament to the owner’s tireless and diligent effort to provide the very best for all manner of holidaymakers.
