The cottages are just 6 miles from the heritage site of Hadrians Wall, which has many areas to explore including the fort at Birdoswald and the fascinating archaeological site of Vindolanda, with its Roman history museum. Standing within a small cluster of homes, the properties are in the North Pennine Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and surrounded by beautiful landscapes. The Pennine Way runs along side the property and is a great walking route, and there are many footpaths and groomed cycle ways allow guests the freedom to explore the stone-walled fields and surrounding moorland. The location is perfectly situated as a touring base for exploring a wealth of natural and historical treasures in the area. The Scottish border and the Lake District are 25 miles away. Nearby Alston, 6 miles, the highest market town in England, offers an interesting array of shops, cafes, pubs and galleries. There is also a steam engine railway, plus an 18-hole golf course. Shop 6 miles, pub and restaurant 2 miles.

I loved the cottage but if I had been told that I had to pay for each dog before I started booking i would have looked at something cheaper. It wasn't the best cottage I've stayed in for everyday items been supplied. Or t towels. Toilet paper replacement bulbs etc. Grandchildren loved it.

The cottage was lovely. It had a nice kitchen and living room. All the rooms/bedrooms were large and very homely. Our only criticism was that the mattresses were a bit stiff and when we arrived there were two chaps in our cottage. There are two cottages of different sizes and the chaps who booked the other one had moved into ours my mistake. A sign on each saying which one is booked would be super useful. We visited the roman museums (which are fantastic) and Vindalanda, but other than the Wall there didn't seem to be that much to do locally. But all in all a lovely weekend, the cottage itself is great.

Excellent location. An hours drive to the lakes with a scenic view. Would definitely stay again!
