Description

The Vestry is a wonderful cottage located in the heart of Yorkshire, ideal for visiting the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors.

Standing peacefully in the heart of the quaint village of Roecliffe, The Vestry was built in 2005. Spacious and charming, this beautifully presented property enjoys a delightful, bright conservatory. Ideal for both families and couples, there are quiet corners of this perfect home from home so you can relax and enjoy a good book.

Attached to the owners’ home, The Old Vicarage, built in 1853, is a home from home surrounded by a myriad of history. Previously forming part of the Roecliffe church, until the 1940s, you will not be disappointed by the beautiful architecture. Designed by RH Sharp, the man who envisioned the Yorkshire Museum, the grand church finished construction in 1854. With building materials from an old Roman quarry, history is built into the church walls. With a 15th-century vestry door and marble chancel floors from York Minster, taken after the great fire of 1829, it adds a real sense of character to this neo-Norman structure.

The village pub is renowned, having won many awards and offers local ales and fine dining. From the doorstep there is a plethora of lovely walks, some along the River Ure, which runs behind the property. The bustling market town of Boroughbridge is just a mile away, and offers a variety of shops, pubs and restaurants, whilst close by there is a local farm shop which sells Yorkshire produce and has a café serving home-made baking. Local attractions include Newby Hall, Fountain’s Abbey, Ripon Cathedral and Brimham Rocks. Visit the elegant spa town of Harrogate, just 15 miles away, with the famous Betty’s tea rooms. The Yorkshire Dales, The North York Moors, the walled city of York and the coastal resorts of Scarborough, Whitby and Filey are all easily accessible. Fishing nearby. Shop 1½ miles, pub and restaurant 500 yards.

We had a great time. The cottage was even better than the description. The owners were very friendly and welcoming. A great base for exploring Yorkshire.

We spent a very enjoyable week in this lovely, well equipped and spacious house. The property was perfect for our three generation family. The kitchen had everything we needed to feel at home. The children loved playing in the garden and seeing the chickens wandering around. The grown ups appreciated the well stocked bookshelf and jigsaws. The views were glorious in all weathers.
